Permalink EL34 tubes in fender amps?

New Topic
Goto Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 Next

My apologies for staying on topic. I shall try to use my history skills to compare assholes from history to the current event asshole, that would be you.

Caesar was a real asshole. He set in motion the events of the collapse of the longest serving government of all-time, he brought his troops into occupy his own city, and by modern terms was a monster. However he is really cool and therefore, or should I say ergo?, I shall compare you to Gaius Julius Caesar, who's name is the origin of Tsar and Kaiser.

Well hell let's gat back to el34 tubes and Vox/Fender, Badash Jake can call you an a$$hole but I can't I'm not like that Wink right Jake? I'm to nice I only curse like I pirate when I'm drunk and that's rare Laughing

So Badash it's all good with me your still groovy in my book so no worries

No matter it's in plain enlgish and to my eyes you made it clear that you basicly don't think Dual's or for that matter anyone else's info was not credible enough so you clearly said I qoute "Check that, a really really really good tech" so I can see where he got offended and
to anybody reading your post will be thinking the same thing right off the bat so you see now

Why even ask for help or feedback?

Wow... Really. As a "disinterested" third party with no emotional involvement, you really choose to continue to believe that I meant I needed to find someone who "knew what they were talking about" instead of Dual showman? What in his answer was at all ambiguous or open to debate? This really doesn't seem salvageable then. Anyway, I truly meant I would have to work hard to find someone capable in my area to do it. Believe it or not.

As to not caring what anyone thinks, I meant anyone's "taste" as in, I don't care if Kyle likes vanilla, I prefer chocolate.

I can't change anyones mind, and if you choose to continue to interpret what I wrote that way, go ahead. The only person's opinion that matters to me on this topic is the one who was insulted. If he still feels I dismissed his opinion, I will feel bad, especially if he at all curtails his contributions to this community. I'm gonna bet though that he's not going to let one negative run in stop him from helping others. Sorry Dual. Don't let one Ahole get you down!

Nah man I read em as I see em' like I said no need to dwell on it let's move forward and again Daul come back man!!!!
I like Brownies no vanilla or chocolate thank you very much Laughing

See dude. That's why I said to you in another post what my mom used to say about me. "I wouldn't change a thing about you if'n I could..." Rock on with your bad self.

The only argument you would get with me is that you cannot take things out of context and truly understand them. You can't measure Caesar by modern standards. You may appreciate Purple Haze, or Sargeant Peppers, or Metallica's Master of Puppets, but if you weren't there when it came out, you don't really get it. Can you imagine hearing the opening riff to purple haze for the first time in '67? I'll answer for you. No you can't. So without truly meeting me. You don't get the full chocolate starfish effect. Hmm... Good band name!

Alright, I went too far with the "asshole contributor" remark. My apologizes to Badash for incorrectly interpreting the original post and/or being oversensitive. That is now in the past...

I cannot take Jake's comment as insulting towards any party. I will not defend another's position, but I will acknowledge that advice comes in many forms on this forum. Jake did close his original comment with the standard "don't listen to us, listen to your ears". That's fair enough in my book. I, however, made the initial insulting comment.

Kyle, thanks for the kind words and your questions are always welcome.

Jake, they will fit. I was a history major in a former life, and I'm still stuck in those trenches...

To set the record perfectly straight, Jake is only slightly younger than I (but older than my teeth), and he nor I seem to have the communication troubles of "his generation". This I WILL take offense too, but only until I finish this Schlitz. Anyone on this forum is obviously cut from a different cloth, especially those under 35 or so.

I still can't figure out if it is worse to hold onto your musical past as you go bald or attempting to conjure up a dead musical genre when your testicles are still descending. Take your pick.

Exactly. I wasn't really trying to put Caesar into modern context.

I also think you might get an argument from some asians about that "longest running government"stuff... Cool

Longest running non-monarchical or non-empirical. As they aren't governments like the republic or many modern states.

Neither... Appropriating the "art" and persona of another ethnic/cultural group is far worse. At least we aren't throwin' A-bombs around on "GangstaRap4Whiggas101". Welcome back my Whigga!!!!!

If I was going to count empires(principate in the Roman sense) I would have called the Roman empire or the Byzantine(Roman empire in the East) as the longest governments.

I can't believe I'm actually replying again!?! If we want to talk about EL34/6CA7s, let's do it.

If not, here we go... I think Sgt. Pepper's is shit. I think Hendrix is shit. I think Metallica is shit. That string of shit is going to get somebody's ass in a bind about my personality or my attitude towards "good music". That's fine, have an opinion opposite mine. But there's one problem with all that... You see, Wronski's amps are probably running in Class A w/ a fixed bias scheme. I don't know any details about the amps, but if the OT is original, that amount of current through the primary windings is probably too much, but certainly not impossible. Maybe the OTs can take it, I'm not sure. That being said, if Dave has the money or luck, he should stick with his EL34 Fender Amps. If someone wanted my to do this to their amp, I would do my damnedest to give them what they want, but I would preface any work with a word of caution.

Wow...what happened here? I'm glad you guys worked this out. Just for the record, I took badash's tech comment the way he meant it. It just goes to show this is an imprecise medium and you should give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, there is some interesting stuff in here if you can get back to it (or if you'd even want to at this point).

I for one wouldn't mind hearing more about Dave Wronksi's non-standard tube choices, but you guys probably scared him off....

Hey Dual, since you are replying, do you have an opinion on what running e34l tubes would require to be safe both for the amp and user? Seems everyone has been bandying about "el34" but Slacktonedave is running e34ls.

Oh and remember my comment about context. The first time I heard metallica, it was way before "Master's came out". I was in San Francisco having a ball playing in my "other" band which was a Ted Nugent/Zeppelin cover band and we went down the street and saw this bunch of Aholes from Los Angeles (sorry, old habits die hard) playing in front of about 16 people... Damn... I instantly knew that these guys were special, but I never thought ANYBODY would sign them to a major... Like I said before, you had to be there... You had to be there THEN.

I think Sgt. Pepper's is shit. I think Hendrix is shit. I think Metallica is shit.

You can tell a lot about a person by what music they like. I don't care for Sergeant Pepper's either, and I saw Hendrix and wasn't impressed, but I 'd never reduce those contributions to fecal matter. Nice choice of words.

By the way, I think Dave Wronski has Vox Bulldog speakers reconed with hemp in his Slacktone amp.

If I was there, I wouldn't have been...

-Max screen voltage of EL34 is 425V, 6L6 is 450V (but both usually can and will do 500V with relative ease). However, the EL34 screen will dissipate 8 watts to the 6L6GCs 5 watts, so maybe nothing needs to change.

-Again, heater current is a big issue. EL34s draw 600 mA more per tube than a 6L6. I would replace the entire power transformer with a PT that can handle the increased draw or add a separate 6.3 VAC heater supply transformer. I'd hate to see original iron die...

-Other circuit changes would be necessary, like things that I mentioned earlier, but I don't see anything that would be irreversible (barring damage). Wronski's amp, just from what he's stated, is most likely far from the original design. It would have to be in order to run EL34s in Class A. The devil is in the details.

Matt, what's your beef with british amps? yes, i defintetly agree that sgt. pepper is shit, ive always hated the beatles. i have a problem with marshall amps, ive had some very bad experiences some marshall's ive had in the past, and i can say im not too fond of VOX, but i cant go ruling out every british amp as horrible. i have a Sound City amp, and i get a very nice clean vintage tube tone out of it, which in my opinion, is all you REALLY need(aside from reverb) for surf. i has good low end but a bit of ice picky highs, but i can deal with that. with the right speakers, it sings like a dove. once i get some real stuff recorded other than the shitty demos and crappily recorded clips on my myspace, ill show you how good it really sounds.

ahum... honest question here, so please dont shoot me....didnt Dave say he was using E34L? doesn't that change everything, if they are different tubes? I never heard of E34L s but that if course says absolutly nothing. but badash started with that he wanted more 'hair' to his sound. Do these E34L's do that at all?

just puzzled.
