Jake,
I just got the CD in Fridays mail and I've been listening to it all weekend long. I'm really digging it including the "secret" songs. I do believe this is the first digipak surf CD I've ever owned and the only one I'm aware of. From the artwork to the engineering the whole CD has a really cool vibe. Congrats!!! You and your band should feel very proud.

CUTBACK

Real quick review, more later as it sinks in.
I am really blown away by the song writting , and the production of the cd.
Can't wait to see them do it live down here in Sept.
I highly recommend getting this cd to everyone.

I have about 10 surf cds in digipacks.
seems to be more coming from Europe than here,
Los Straitjackets have done a few recently.

I'll bring this thread back up as my copy came in the mail the other day. After a couple listens, the whole album hasn't sunk in completely, but already it's easy to echo everyone else's mentioning of these really strong, catchy melodies. This album is a lot of fun, with a whole lot of tasteful playing of all the instruments. I've never really been a fan of organ in surf, but I think it works just fine here. I usually find it a little overbearing, but the 'Verb's hands it adds well to the mix. The trumpet at the end of the last song brings everything to a really nice finale (of the "official" songs. There are still those two extras afterwards).
Immediate favorites are probably "Wrath of the Mercenary," "Hull Breach Reef," "Scarlett Fever," and "Surf After Sunset," but then again, these are all really strong tunes. Everyone should check them out. Thumbs Up

Thanks. I wish Phil Dirt was still doing his thing. We got a 3/5 for one of our early home recorded demos with just 4 band members.

Phil does still review cds, I thought he still updates every month or so.

Jake, have you sent Phil a copy? He's still posting monthly reviews
on Reverb Central. He's not doing as many as before, but I'm sure
he'd review it.

Oh, cool. We must get around to that.
