hey tikidude,
these guys are the amazing "Razorblades" from Wiesbaden. If you want to make youself happy, buy their new cd "The Dark Side Of The Beach"

In Phil Dirts words: This is a splendid release. Wonderful writing, consistently strong sound, and top caliber playing from all four musicians. If there's a parallel with other bands, it's Slacktone and Jon and the Nightriders, though those bands are for reference. Great music, solid arrangements, and crisp clean production. The Razorblades are a band to be reckoned with.

I've corresponded recently with Martin, the lead guitarist of Razorblades. He sent me this CD, and I've listened to it about half a dozen times since then. I don't think I've got a good grasp on it yet, as it has something like 20+ songs on there. But I can say that it's very good. Not completely trad, but a lot tradder than their look would make you expect! I think Slacktone is a good reference point, but quite honestly, I think that the Surf Coasters may be an even better one. They definitely made me think of these two bands while listening to the CD - though they are not quite as good as them yet. But they are excellent musicians, and some of the songs are very good. Martin is a ripping lead guitarist, and the drummer is very tight and flashy, very enjoyable. I guess what reminds me of the Surf Coasters about them is their overall approach to songwriting which is definitely a bit more on the modern side. Martin also isn't afraid to step on the distortion pedal and solo, a la Shiego Naka. Like i said, I need to listen to it some more, but overall I'd say it's a 3.5-4 star release. I'd definitely recommend it.

PS Los Twang Marvels most recent CD is really good, too, but in an entirely different way!! More traditional late-'50s American instro and early sixties non-Shadows euro-instro stuff mixed in with a dose of surf, if that makes any sense. I expect that Klas would really dig it - that should give you some idea.

I've heard some of the Razorblades stuff on Clint Beachwoods show, and on the Zptdudah site, I really need to get that stuff.
And I still can't get over the look of the band, too bad ass!!
