Go for it WR.
I've driven from So. Cal. to San Fransico 800 miles round trip, plus travel around the area. 5 or 6 times in the last 5 years.
Always good to have a road trip, and with surf music too.
That sounds like a great event, would like to see some reports after it happens, please.

yeah I know. about 60 miles. I live some 60 miles from the german border, it would be a two hour trip if the traffic is good.
but it's true, we're pretty small scale here. I have a friend in Chitown who used to do a 500+ miles round trip to her parents every other weekend all through university. But I come from a country where 30 minutes is considered a long commute. I live litterly on the border of town (overlooking nature and agricultural land) and it's a 7 minutes bicycle ride (netherlands have 16 million inhabitants and over 20 million bikes among them. go figure) to the train station. and this is the 7th city of the neterlands (200.000) ... Amsterdam's got a about a million. From US perspective, the Netherlands isn't a country but a metropole with relativly large parks
still, the ruhrgebiet isn't exactly like driving along the californian coast - more like driving through a chemical waste bin... one of the most dense industrial areas of Europe. I'lll probably go if I can figure it out with the kids and the wife.

on a more substantial note - there are some bands I know and some i never heard of - it will most likely be worth picking up that cd.
one thing, if you're not trad-only and have a very well developped sense of humor, you gotto pick up a Leopold Kraus cd, preferrably the first (Schwarzwaldfieber, the best one imo). they are just plain friggin hilarious. very good musicians, and vry very funny. though I can imagine lots of the liner notes/art-work humor might get past non-europeans. not really surf, but, well, give it a listen.
This link has two soundsamples, I can't find the band's website this quick, don't even know if they have one
http://tinyurl.com/s65rw
I've seen them live twice, and I 'lll be looking forward to a third time. hilarious.

just saw it's near Oberhausen, I remember this song from kindergarten ...
jetzt kommt der Hans nach Haus freut sich die Lies
ob er aber uber Oberhausen kommt
ob er aber uber Unterhausen kommt
ob er aber uberhaupt nicht kommt
dass ist nicht wiss ...
sorry, irrelevant trivia, I've got a head full of it. spelling's not too good either, probably.

come on! 100km is not that much.. I drive 450 km from the south of germany and next day another 400km to a rockabilly show. I think it´s the event of the year in Europe for cheap money. I can´t remember that there was another bigger party except the waikiki surf battles in 1962 and 1963. tell me when I´m wrong. Ok, see you at june third.

yup, I wrote that post coming from the assumption it was near Basel. The 200km it is from where I live is rather doable.
I'm talking with my drummer/friend to go, maybe I can get others to come as well. will need hotel-room, will need to negotiate with wife&kids.
WR
btw, not to p on your p, but I 'm pretty sure there are bigger surf and surfrelated events in Europe all the time. italy has a couple, belgium has at least one I know, netherlands had one not to long ago.

please contact Uwe from the www.twistzentrale.de for hotel rooms. I´m sure he can help you finding a hotel room. He lives in Muelheim and knows the place very well. his email postmaster@twistzentrale.de
I personally never heard about parties with a lineup of eleven instro-bands in europe, but it doesn´t matter, you´ll have a lot of fun on the release party, that´s for sure

Very cool thanks for the update.
what is the name of this band?
http://www.surfmusic-forum.de/_294_9449.html
that's what I love to see, some freaky long haired dudes, bashing out some screaming reverb drenched surf.
That just re-affirms it for me, No offense guys ( really)...
You keep your uniforms, I'll keep my hair.. thank you.
I need to print that and put it up as inspiration to start a band.
