Thanks Ariel! It was perfect and then I sprayed a clear coat over it after I affixed the decal and it funked it all up. At least it looks great from 2 feet away. I would wet-sand/steel wool it again but I'd probably end up ruining the decal. Matt "tha Kat" Lentz |

Alright, my VI has now been "professionally" set up with LaBella flat wounds. Why the quotation marks? I'm not sure this tech has wrestled too many offsets, much less VI's. First off, lots of buzz from saddles - loctite here I come. Secondly, it's way better, but the low E flop is still lurking, especially when fretting F, F#, G. This of course can get some fret buzz going if you get aggressive. Any suggestions? My guess is that I need even more tension via a neck shim? Is this possible to do without removing strings completely? On the positive side. He cleaned up the stock nut and filed it properly for the heavier gauge. Doesn't look like chewed gum anymore. Intonation spot on (with room to spare on my bridge for some reason). Trem works fine, though certainly very subtle on the bass anyway. And those strings are fantastic! Like butter really with a sweet tone. Can't wait to sort out this low E string though. — |

Before you loctite anything, make sure all of the saddle screws are the same height as their saddle neighbor, if one is higher or lower than the other, that will create buzz and cause the saddle to drop. Also, make sure the strings aren't touching the intonation screws. |

Copy that, Jake. A little tedium that pays off no doubt. Funny you mention the intonation screws, you know with the way the bridge floats, if I push it all the way back towards trem, the strings do contact intonation screws. It was like that, when I first played it, made for some really funky harmonic overtones on the high E which freaked me out. Centering up the bridge takes care of it though. This thing is a funny beast, man. So quirky. — |

I'm embarrassed to say that the sky is not falling after all. The bridge just needed to be raised a few mm's. No more fret buzz on low E and the action is more to my liking as a result. Totally loving the VI now. Will hopefully post a quick Rubber Band demo with the VI soon! — |
