I'm going to keep posting these until all eight are up. My playing is always far from perfect, but these performances are even far from how well I rehearsed these songs. But the point is, I survived. I didn't quit after the mistakes started compounding and no one stopped us from performing because I wasn't playing well.
I learned a huge lesson from all this. And, though I wish for everyone here who's been so supportive, that I'd played better, we've all waited a long time together for me to do this.

Great song choice, was listening to the Ventures do Lawrence of Arabia last night on my .mp3 player. Noel shows his stuff on that solo part.
Speaking of The Ventures, just received Big Box Of The Ventures, a 6 CD set released in 2013. Probably already been discussed here, but if not, has a lot of tunes that typically have not been included on their many 'best of releases,' and a nice price point to boot. Avail. at the usual suspect outlets (EBay, Amazon, etc.).

Thanks! But... um, I'm the guy in the Fireballs shirt. Alan is using his Robben Ford Fender and is solely responsible for the great jazz and classic rock guitar playing. I'm up there trying to make my fingers go where they used to remember so easily the day before. Was lots of fun. Lawrence of Arabia was the hit of the performance. No one expected what we played, and amazingly everyone liked it. A lot!

Now this is how it should be done. Here, with Bob Spalding, are mrmomo (DiPinto Galaxie 4) and J Mo' (Fender Ventures Jazzmaster).
Blue Dawn
Let me know if you can't see it and I'll try to relink it.

This is the last song we played. Steve had some trouble getting started, but he personally made the decision to edit this clip to include that, so everyone would know it's always possible to recover from these things and keep playing. He had never played in front of anyone before. He did great!

Well, that's the last song we did. Not close to perfect, but a lot of fun, and nowhere as bad as it could have been. I hope watching wasn't too painful. I played some pretty cringe-worthy mistakes, and the rest was never perfect. So, while I'm kinda embarrassed about my performance, I'm also really pleased we pulled it off.

Thanks so much! I'm REALLY very glad it's such a friendly, uncritical and supportive audience at this event.

I just want to add, I've always been my own worst critic, whether writing, drawing and painting, or playing guitar. I quit them all. My motto always was, "If I can't do it perfectly, I won't do it at all." This attitude always prevented me from getting better, because one does an awful lot of imperfect before getting better than average. Not anymore!

You should be proud Noel, it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there in front of 50+ people, with at least one legend in the room no less! I would have been struggling to keep it together myself, even with a few gigs under my belt. (The first El Mirage show was less people in a bar; I feel we even had sufficient practice, but I still managed to not meet my own expectations by far... I did a bit better next time, but I know it's not at all like jamming with buddies or filming videos!)
But hey, congrats for surviving, and with it being an invaluable experience, chalk it down as a big success!

Noel,
Thanks for posting the video. Looks like you got the camera rolling at the middle of the tune..
I can't wait for Tom B to release some DVD stuff or Youtube vids on this event.
You didn't happen to catch "Mexico", did you?
Again, thanks for recording this.

Thanks! I didn't film that performance; Tom did, and he shared it on Facebook. I think it's maybe just how he edited the clip.
Sorry, J Mo', I didn't film Mexico. Wish I had. I was so captivated by what was going on I forgot to set up to do it. Always liked that song a lot. It's one of the songs I want my acoustic trio to do.

It's really been my pleasure, Rudi. And I hope it inspires someone else here, who hasn't thought this sort of thing is possible, to give it a try. Two years ago, I didn't think it could happen. A year ago, I didn't think it would happen. But it did, and more is to come.
Gotta love this place!
