One thing for certain: if Frankie played the convention or any SoCal event, I am sure it would all be on video!

Tuck, I do in fact have pretty much every available video of the Fathoms. I used it to learn a few songs and even tabbed out 90% of Incognito last year. Transcribe software works with video perfectly and that is why I would love more!

Its true, it takes me forever to make a video or recording of myself, but on the other hand, there a about a million guys on youtube that don't seem to have that problem.

Frankie, I have wanted to ask...tell us more about what you current musical pursuits are...surf or otherwise. Do you have releases other than with the Fathoms? Have you used the Jazzmaster on any other projects, live or otherwise? I am sure its all good!

I would like to thank everyone involved in this post for pointing me to The Fathoms.

Good stuff.

So just wanted to add that I was lucky enough to catch the Fathoms play a few weeks back! Great, great show. I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to get any videos to share with you all... but I was extremely glad I didn't miss it.

Hi Folks...I haven't been on the site lately. So in answer to 6V6's questions.
I was in a band called The Cranktones which predates The Fathoms. It was me and two members of The Fathoms,Stan and Johnny. The Fathoms was actually an offshoot of this band which was a rockabilly band. We used to do a surf medley in our set which was actually a Ventures medley plus Cecelia Ann and some James Bond theme stuff. It sounded so good that I started writing my own surf tunes and The Fathoms were born. I used a 1960 Guild Starfire with De Armond single coil pickups that a got from Ashley Kingman from the Big Sandy band to record "Vibrate With The Cranktones" on Rhubarb Records distributed by MuSick recordings. When we played live I used a 1961 Gibson 125T ..one P-90. Both those guitars sounded great and I've still got them.

I also had a western swing ,honky tonk band called The Spurs in which I played non-pedal steel. It's on Eddie Angel's Spinout Label. I've got a bunch of steels but on that recording I used a Paul Wornick re-issue Bigsby triple eight neck steel guitar.

Lately I've been doing a lot of freelance gigs using a variety of guitars.
A Gretsch Roundup, a 52 Reissue Tele, 61 Gibson tdc and my double 8 string Gibson Consolette steel guitar.I've been using the same amp for about 40 yrs. A mid 60s De Luxe Reverb. That amp just sounds incredible and it's light. I only use my Jazzmaster with The Fathoms.

The Fathoms play once in a while and I've got a whole new lineup.
I've got a bunch of new tunes just sitting around waiting to be recorded but just haven't gotten around to it for one reason or another. The biggest reason being money, time and the availability of other band members..
So till we meeat again...

Thanks Again One and All
Frankie Blandino

Thanks for the updates Frankie! I hope you can get the new Fathoms' recordings going eventually. The world needs another Fathoms album!

I loved the Ashley Kingman connection. And I would love to see Frankie in California or North Carolina (or me in Boston, which is probably more feasible).

Right on, 6x6!

Thanks for posting to the thread Frankie!!

It would be great to see a reissue of the Fathoms music catalog; most of the records are difficult to locate...although I did just pick up a new copy of Overboard direct from MuSick on clear vinyl just a couple of weeks ago.

I feel vindicated by your use of a Deluxe Reverb!!!! It's definitely one of the greatest amps Fender made and deserves more respect in the Gear forum.

Could somebody please have Frankie try to email
Me again. He said he tried and it bounced back.
I emailed him and no reply.

Lets all cross our fingers for next summer at SG101 convention!

Frankie is one hell of a guitar player, but the whole band is just a great bunch of talented guys. Always a fun show. I think they're supposed to be playing in New Jersey soon too, so anyone who lives down that way - be sure to go check them out.

They play out fairly regularly in Massachusetts, where I'm from, so I try to catch them when I can - but I didn't see too many videos online of them, and figured for those of you in other parts of the world, you might enjoy a little taste.

Oh and another heads up - his other band, The Cranktones (also absolutely fantastic) will be at the "New England Shakeup" this September along with a bunch of rockabilly type bands, worth checking out if you're in the area
