Thanks! I've been eyeing those new black burst longhorn baritones.

Grackle,
Welcome to SG101! Just about anything you want to know about surf music can be found here. Are there any surf bands in particular that you currently enjoy?

Greetings surf people, my name is grackle and i'm into garage, spooky surf, blues etc. Recently got back into music after a long and strange hiatus. I sang and played harp in a garage band as a teenager and later played lap steel in a folksy type band. As for guitars I got a couple of old danos and a kawai which are patiently teaching me how to play them.

thanks!

Welcome aboard!

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Hello all,

I'm Richard, late 40s, guitar player (Fender Mustang's but would love a Jaguar too). I also like synths and electronic music, garage-rock, psychedelia, soul, funk, krautrock...etc etc.

But I love surf music too. There's something that draws me to it and I regularly get really into it until I make myself sick of it and have to have a break!

Mainly a 1st wave fan, but started to explore later waves. The Continental Magazine's been great to catch up with the current stuff.

Hi All,

I started playing guitar when I was 13 and now in my 50's, I'm still not sure what I'm doing. Got into it for the hair spray and boots. Traded my boots for flip flops in my 20's and worked as a SCUBA instructor in the Bahamas, playing the clubs at night covering everything from classic rock to reggae. Now I have Crocs and Vans, and spent the last few years supporting a French Canadian folk singer with her projects. So it's been a mixed bag of experience, styles, and footwear... no longer have any hair, so the spray is long gone.

I've been a huge fan of instrumental music for years, and only just starting to deep dive the surf genre in the last few. It's such a pure and refreshing sound.

Got more focused on custom painting guitars during the pandemic... metal flake everywhere, my wife isn't thrilled.

Retirement plan is to sell all the gear I no longer use, and buy a small country somewhere.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome Richard and Tom!

You have found the right place! Here we have surf bands, guitarists from beginner to expert, gear talk, music talk, live show listings for club shows and festivals. Anything you want concerning surf music you can find on SG101 because most play but all are fans!

Hello everybody!
My name is Domagoj and I’m a guitarist from Zagreb, Croatia.
I’ve been listening to surf almost exclusively for the last year or so so I decided to join this little community.
You can hear some of my surf in the following link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1ojvbYov8ic0uojDfLDLZsKZXDY0AfqN

Looking forward to being part of this cool community.

Welcome Domagoj! Good stuff, thanks for sharing.

I apologize but I posted a separate intro below. I am new to playing surf music but looking forward to learning a lot from this forum!

Hello everyone. My dad is a huge Ventures fan and got me in to surf when I started playing bass and guitar in the 90's as a teenager. We still get together now and then to play some covers and originals. I'm hoping to record some of those original instrumentals with him and I joined to ask some gear questions related to recording.

Outside of surf music, I play in a post punk band called Tiger Knives.

And I'm a big fan of Fender Japan instruments. Hoping to find a Ventures Jazz Bass to play alongside my dad's Ventures Strat.

Let me know if you have one for sale!

Circuitspore, I just listened to "Snake Eyes" out on YouTube. Great tune, great groove, killer bass line!

Awesome! What kind of bass and amp are you using, or are you going direct into a DAW?

On that album it was a hodge-podge of various settings over time, but for the most part I was using a DOD250 clone for dirt, and using various guitar amp models in Garageband. Everything was played on my 1986 Fender Performer Bass.

Whoa Circuitspore, a 1986 Fender Performer Bass? Now that's a piece of equipment you don't see much anymore. Sounds great!

Welcome to the site, Richard. There are a few other Brits here as well.

As well as Continental Magazine, there is Pipeline Magazine, based in the UK: http://www.pipelinemag.co.uk
It's more Shadow's focussed than surf, but it's a good, positive magazine.

Hey folks. I'm Rick I kinda stumbled in here by accident after picking up an old supro dual tone. I consider myself a rock musician not necessarily surf guitar - but I enjoy it, I just don't claim to be an expert.

I also make and refurbish guitars and that stuff is all here if that interests you.

Welcome Rick! You don't need to be an expert here. Share what you want and learn what you want. There's a lot of talent and expertise here you can access if you like!

Hi everyone, greetings from balmy Edmonton! I'm Arthur, and I have only recently plunged into the Surf, discovering some amazing music and bands. Looking forward to joining the discussion and learning from the group.

Welcome to a fellow Canadian. This is a great forum of people with unrivalled knowledge on surf music.
