That was interesting, at least to me since I'm not steeped in this sort of thing from a sound engineer's perspective. I have played around with many of these effects since my BOSS RV-5 has Hall, Room, Gate, Modulated Hall, Plate and Spring reverbs. Not the others though. It was fun for a while to play the same guitar part just to hear how different it sounded switching through all of them.

As for their effects on voices, they all sound better than autotune.

What I wonder about is the sort of "click" you (or anyway I) hear with things like the Astronauts.

That click is the drip a tube spring reverb tank creates when you palm mute the strings on a guitar. It sounds very percussive. I hear it used most on E, G, A & B on the low strings.

Thanks, Noel! I always worry about how much of what I hear is just in the ear. In my left I know that higher pitches, if audible, come out as a bit of a buzz. I really like that "click," and I would hate it if I were the only person hearing it right.

And, of course, everything sounds better without autotune, except, possibly, the many people who can't sing in tune without it.
