This is definitely going into the smiley farm. It should show up shortly when the cache expires. THANK YOU! ROTFL

I could also do one with the, ahem, Squier "surf" Strat (notice inverted commas) but I'm afraid at such a low definition you won't be able to tell the pickups are lipsticks... And then someday a newcomer will ask why there is a smiley bashing a surf green strat, and someone will correct them, and it'll be all over again Dead Laughing

This will always happen as long as you mix enthusiastic and curious new members with very experienced long-time members. It's like teaching high-school. Every year it's different students asking the same questions, arguing about the same facts and speaking with confidence about things they've only briefly heard about.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

But I left out the most important thing. The people who join here, like I was not long ago, really want to learn from the experts, like I still do! I'll take here over high school any day. Not knowing, and asking, is always the key that unlocks the door. So hurray for new members! Even if it means another FRV-1 topic.

Well..yes, hooray for new members. But no to another topic. This creates forum fatigue that drives away the experts. New people should be directed to the existing topics. I should have locked this thread.

Is there any way to solve the problem searching for "FRV-1" that always returns nothing?

I'll have to look into it.

Enthusiastic and curious new member here. Noel Kindly clued me in on the –dash- and referred me to the multitude of links On the FRV. Thanks Noel.

I searched for how to delete the post-since I posted it...

"Results for "how do i delete my post?" page 1 of 1

No results found for how do i delete my post?"

You can't.

Er, The Gear Page and Harmony Central have plenty of repetitive threads and they certainly don't "drive away the experts". If anything, constantly berating people and deleting their threads is going to put people of using this forum.

Or maybe just sticky a few threads like this so they're always on page 1?

And I wasn't aware their were problems with the search engine, but if that's true, then maybe the problem is with the site and some people's attitudes toward "repetitive threads" and not people's enthusiasm for wanting to come direct to people who would have an informative opinion on a pedal synonymous with surf?

That attitude of wanting to lock a thread because one was made months ago, then telling people to search for it when the search engine is faulty is only going to put people off. Experts or not. Plus, that's a bit passive aggressive and snobbish to say you only want "experts" using the forum. Especially in the gear forum, where the types and models of pedals that are going to be discussed (fuzz, reverb, tremolo) are fairly limited given the context of the website.

No one is berating anyone. No threads are being deleted.

That's a good idea. I also stickied the thread about searching before starting a new topic. It didn't help much.

And I wasn't aware their were problems with the search engine, but if that's true, then maybe the problem is with the site and some people's attitudes toward "repetitive threads" and not people's enthusiasm for wanting to come direct to people who would have an informative opinion on a pedal synonymous with surf?

It gets a bit tiring seeing the same threads pop-up all the time. This drives people away. How do I know this? People have told me. The same information is being conveyed over and over again. I realize it is a futile task to have one thread per piece of gear, but it is clearly stated in the rules for this forum to search before you post, and yet few do.

That attitude of wanting to lock a thread because one was made months ago, then telling people to search for it when the search engine is faulty is only going to put people off. Experts or not.

The search engine has a problem with punctuation. This was only recently discovered. It is now noted on the search page. Searching for "Boss FRV" will still reveal the information.

Plus, that's a bit passive aggressive and snobbish to say you only want
"experts" using the forum.

No one has stated this anywhere. I said repetitive posts drive away experts.

BTW, it isn't every day that I get accused of berating people, deleting threads, being passive-aggressive, snobbish, and being an elitist all in one post!

All we are asking for is a bit of common courtesy. Please search before posting in the gear forum. Most other forums (the ones that are not the size of Harmony Central) have similar guidelines. I don't think that is asking too much.

Oh Brian young lad, how I envy you for doing so much for so little. Picard Face Palm

if you don't feel like answering the question like "how do i change a guitar string?" because you are an expert, don't. Don't reply, go to another thread if you want. Or log off. it's that simple.

Feeling overwhelmed with the "noise"? sure i understand. i've skipped over joining in on certain threads b/c i didn't feel like typing in the same info yet again.. But no reason to bother typing any number of reasons you're not answering or what they should search when all the typing you have done could have answered their question.

I'm wondering if the webpage search (code) or database query has an issue with the "-" (hyphen character) in FRV-1. I've noticed if you search for FRV1 you get results back BUT you get nothing if you use FRV-1

That's what I fear is happening. We have some heavy hitters on this site who have been keeping low profiles lately. Maybe they are rolling their eyes at yet another thread about X and logging off? Now we all suffer because of it. That's the point I am trying to make.

But no reason to bother typing any number of reasons you're not answering or what they should search when all the typing you have done could have answered their question.

I'm not sure what alternate reality SG101 you and Snufkino are reading. I can no longer read every post made to SG101, but I still read most of them. The only people who are making suggestions to search first are myself, Jonpaul, and Noel. Jonpaul and Noel are bending over backwards to be kind and patient and are explaining how to search. I am a bit more terse, usually just posting the links to older threads (I will work on that). No one is berating anyone. No one is deleting threads. We are trying to actually HELP people by showing them where the discussions are and how to search (teach a man to fish and all that...).

Again, maybe this is futile, but I don't think it is too much to ask to run a cursory search on your gear topic before posting. This rule has been on the books since November 2006. And again, as that thread says, if you have suggestions on what older threads to sticky, bring them to me.

Thank you.

Yes. I did some research and the search engine code is stripping all punctuation out from content before placing it into the index. Thus you won't be able to search for FRV-1, but you will find hits for FRV(space)1 or just FRV. I have made a note of this on the search page.

Anyway, I think we are currently drawing too much attention to this issue. In other words: Dead Reverb

It is a problem, not a huge problem, just something I wish we could do better at.
