You should never use a Fender Onboard Trem then
Yep, just one of those things that goes with the territory. My way around it if recording something is simply to take a sample of several seconds of not playing before actually starting whatever... Then I take that sample & basically tell the software "this is noise" & then "now get rid of it" - doesn't seem to hurt the recorded part where there's playing but gets rid of that idle pulsing.

Well, I don't use Fender amps so, no worries with that. If they were going for that vintage thump, then they nailed it. The hunt continues. A shame because every other aspect about that pedal sounded so damn good.

My Twin Reverb makes the thump sound for the first 45 seconds when I first turn the amp on, then it goes away completely. I guess I should consider myself lucky.

I recently tried "The big Chill" by Jam pedals. A great pedal by a great company, located in Greece. Check it out if want: http://www.jampedals.com/the-big-chill/
The main reason I did that, was to compare it with my boss tr-2.
More expensive tremolo pedals are supposed to have greater components, as well as they offer some more options.
Personally, I am fully satisfied with my tr-2. It doesn't alter the tone and it does what it is supposed to do. More expensive pedals (like the one I mentioned), may offer a wider variety of speed. I do not need that. It may offer a volume boost. The tr-2 is supposed to have a slight drop in the volume, but I barely notice it. What would be useful, is a tap tempo (or an expression pedal) but up till now, I haven't needed it. Another drawback would be the fact that it is not TB, but one needs some buffers in the chain and I also use it as one .
So, as far as I am concerned, you do not need to spend too much money for a trem. The TR-2 is totally fine. Unless you are a trem freak or something and use it a lot for specified rythmn vibes. Like the "how soon is now" by the Smiths.

Hey guys, I finally got around to trying out my new Demeter Tremulator last night. All I can say is, WOW! This pedal is seriously amazing. Honestly, I don't think I will ever use my onboard tremolo again (maybe for a backup). It goes super slow, helicopter speed fast, and the depth is very, very deep. A perfect emulation of blackface tremolo. I couldn't be happier with this pedal. I just wanted to share my first impressions with you guys, and also maybe help somebody who is on the fence about which trem pedal to buy.

Any love for the 'Swamp Thang' trem pedal? There's a local company selling a BYOC of it. I'm led to believe that trem circuits are relatively easy to put together. But then I'm a gullible soul...

Recently picked up two tremolo pedals that I'm really happy with; a Fulltone Supa Trem and a Catalinbread Valcoder. Very much liking what these pedals do and no annoying thump.
I messed with the Black Cat and discovered that it is very sensitive to an amplifier's low end settings. Rolling back the bass will result in the thump going bye-bye. Unfortunately, the resulting eq is not very flattering to a strat's single coils. A heftier pick-up or even humbuckers may yield better results.
The aforementioned is soon to be on it's way to the FXdoctor to be repaired and put back in to service.

I built pedals from BYOC. If you are ok at soldering you should be fine. I'm not that good at it and had some trouble. The company and community was extremely helpful in figuring out what I did wrong. I haven't tried the BYOC tremolo but did hear it was one of the easiest.
I got a Source Audio Vertigo tremolo. I got it because it has opto/tube/harmonic settings which I liked when demoing the Flint. At first I wasn't sure about it as there is clearly a default highpass filter when you turn it on but I kind of like it now. You are supposed to be able to connect the pedal to your computer and edit a bunch of settings (like removing the filter) but I haven't done that yet.

Well darn, my Demeter Tremulator croaked on me. It has a really bad short, and only works about half the time now. I plugged it into my friends adapter to make sure it wasn't just a low battery, and it still shorted out. I've only had it since December 30th. I left a voicemail for Demeter support, hopefully they will get back with me soon.

@SixStringSurfer email Demeter they seem to respond in a few days. I just got a older demeter tremulator and LOVE IT.... I did have a weird ground thing happing (hear pulsating when pedal was off and loud static) this did go away when I tightened up the adapter ring on the outside of the metal case. I use a battery but also use an adapter - pedal is quite in this mode for me. I emailed them about this issue and they responded back in a few days. Best of luck !!! ~Derek

I have a fulltone supatrem 2 right now, first tremolo pedal I've had that sounded 'right.' Running it in stereo sounds very cool. The EHX Pulsar I had a while ago sounded great too.
Wasn't a fan of the keely dynatrem, joyo, solidgold, or cusack I had before.
Best is just the tremolo section of the DRRI I have though.

I'll put in a 2nd vote for the Vertigo trem pedal. Really like the harmonic setting. Didn't see a need to hook it up to the pc however, sounded fine out of the box to me. All that and half as expensive as a Flint.

I just remembered a really cool DOD pedal I had-
Early 90s DOD FX22 Vibrothang
It had a normal tremolo (pulsing volume) section but also the brownface style phasing eq tremolo section. Really excellent harmonic tremolo. You can get them for like 40 bucks on reverb.
