Just got the strips today, but the strings haven't arrived yet. I added the third spring anyway (still using .11 Chromes) and it really does make a big difference. I angled the claw in an attempt to counter the tension of the bass strings and it's doing great. Bam! Good to go! It could use a little more tweaking but it's already sooo much better. It used to go 1/2 step out of tune if I did anything with the trem bar, now I can really crank the bar and after a lot of flailing around like that it's only just slightly off, which can be corrected by lightly moving the bar in the opposite direction. If you don't abuse it, it doesn't even go out of tune. With .10s it'd probably be perfect. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180795173826?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Last edited: Jun 11, 2012 15:59:34 |

Good luck. A slightly thicker piece of brass might be a good idea, just to keep it stable. ...but then the damn trem arm broke off in the bridge. It wasn't the official SGV arm, so it never fit quite right. Last edited: Jun 16, 2012 01:16:03 |

The original arms are still available from Yamaha, the part # is QC541101 and it's about $38 with shipping from www.yamaha24x7.com |

I recently got in a 3-pack of high tension trem springs from Floyd Upgrades. I loosened the strings on my SGV and replaced the two stock springs with two of these, which actually pulled the trem too far in the opposite direction! I was irked. After a few minutes I decided to just try one, and viola, the trem sat straight and the arm is at a much more useable angle. I put the stiff spring on the bass side and put the stock string back on the treble side. The Mystery Men? |

This is my trem solution. I went to the hardware store and bought 10mm square metal pipe. I drilled a 3mm hole in the trem posts and added new M3 threads. Seems to work perfectly. No problem now to use 011 strings |

I ordered a set of .13 Chromes...I have my doubts as to whether they'll even fit in the rollers or not. |

When I owned this guitar, I used 10's and thought they worked well. |

I had .11s on my SGV 800, which had been modded with a third trem string by my tech friend. It helped stabilize the trem, and eliminated problems with higher string gauges. BTW, that guitar felt and played much better with .11s, after coming to me with .10s. |
