I think it helps knowing the song aswell. I like going to Best Buy and playing it there, just to show off hoe good I am. Makes the younger crowed jealouse of me : ), I do that aswell at the music store

I heard the 80's Hair band version will be out very soon, if it's not already!

  1. Opening Licks

  2. "Holy Diver" - Dio

  3. "We Got the Beat" - The Go-Go's
  4. "No One Like You" - Scorpions
  5. "Metal Health" - Quiet Riot (Encore)

  6. Amp Warmers

  7. "Nothin' But a Good Time" - Poison

  8. "I Wanna Rock" - Twisted Sister
  9. "Turning Japanese" - The Vapors
  10. "Hold on Loosely" - 38 Special (Encore)

  11. String Snappers

  12. "Lonely is the Night" - Billy Squier

  13. "Synchronicity II" - The Police
  14. "Heat of the Moment" - Asia
  15. "Shakin'" - Eddie Money
  16. "Bathroom Wall" - Faster Pussycat (Encore)

  17. Return of the Shred

  18. "Round and Round" - Ratt

  19. "Wrathchild" - Iron Maiden
  20. "I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls
  21. "What I Like About You" - The Romantics (Encore)

  22. Relentless Riffs

  23. "Radar Love" - White Lion

  24. "Play With Me" - Extreme
  25. "The Warrior" - Scandal
  26. "Balls to the Wall" - Accept
  27. "Caught in a Mosh" - Anthrax (Encore)

  28. Furious Fretwork

  29. "Seventeen" - Winger

  30. "18 and Life" - Skid Row
  31. "Only a Lad" - Oingo Boingo
  32. "Ballroom Blitz" - Krokus

WTF is winger doing there? Seriously, they got Antrax, yet not Slayer? Some one needs to go to the game headquarters and show a foot up there hole. I was looking forward to playing Angel of Death, but Caught in a Mosh is okay still

"One may smile, and smile, and be a villian"

They just need a good metal guitar hero. I would be totally into that. Most of these songs I have no interest in playing, so I will pass on this.

pfff imagine you have to listen to the whole list!

torture, torture I tell you...Guantanamo is like a boyscout camp compared to that.

Some strange categorisation there:

The Vapours weren't 'Hair Rock' they were late punk
The Police were Post - Punk
The Romantics song was a cool garagey thing (loved it)
Flock of Seagulls were just the worst band to ever succeed ..... 'Return of the Shred? I think not... more like Return of the Shed... - But I admit they sure did have very very silly hair. (Remember the bit in The Wedding Singer?)

Youth and enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery.

I dont know 'caught in a mosh' is awesome, 'wrathchild' rules, 'Balls to the wall' destroys and 'round and round' features Warren Demartini one of the elite 80's shredders extraordinaire.

I wouldnt say its all terrible.

I don't think it's actually being billed as "the hair metal" one - I'm 90% certain it's just an 80's one in general (which explains Oingo Boingo, et al).

And since they're on the list, anyone else think both Vapors albums are great? Anyone? Anyone?

I think I hear crickets off in the distance somewhere.

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

They should make Guitar Hero 80s kick in your face edition. Stuff like Metallica, Exodes, Slayer, Iron Maiden, just metal and nothing else. Thay would kick ass

"One may smile, and smile, and be a villian"

I don't have the album,
but I really like Turning Japanese.
When Jon & The Nightriders did Surfing Japanese, I thought it was gonna be a Instro version of that. but alas no...

So apparently this is the real tracklist, since "I Want Candy" got dropped:

  1. Opening Licks

  2. "(Bang Your Head) Metal Health" - Quiet Riot

  3. "We Got the Beat" - The Go-Go's
  4. "I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls
  5. "Balls to the Wall" - Accept
  6. "18 and Life" - Skid Row (encore)

  7. Amp Warmers

  8. "No One Like You" - Scorpions

  9. "Shakin'" - Eddie Money
  10. "Heat of the Moment" - Asia
  11. "Radar Love" - White Lion
  12. "Because, It's Midnite" - Limozeen (encore)

  13. String Snappers

  14. "Holy Diver" - Dio

  15. "Turning Japanese" - The Vapors
  16. "Hold on Loosely" - .38 Special
  17. "The Warrior" - Scandal
  18. "I Wanna Rock" - Twisted Sister (encore)

  19. Return of the Shred

  26. "Ain't Nothin' But a Good Time" - Poison

  27. "Lonely is the Night" - Billy Squier
  28. "Bathroom Wall" - Faster Pussycat
  29. "Los Angeles" - X
  30. "Wrathchild" - Iron Maiden (encore)

  31. Furious Fretwork

  32. "Electric Eye" - Judas Priest

  33. "Police Truck" - Dead Kennedys
  34. "Seventeen" - Winger
  35. "Caught in a Mosh" - Anthrax
  36. "Play With Me" - Extreme (encore)

Most of it still (really) sucks, but Dead Kennedys and X just made it a whole lot more tempting.

I played guitar hero for the first time in an arcade here in S.F. Wow, that's a lot of fun! Yeah the left hand isn't really musically challenged in any way but the right hand definitely requires a very good sense of rhythm and timing and I think it would be of benefit to starting musicians to try this. You know those sections of a song which require all of the band to be synchronized and when you nail it you feel so good, this taps into the same feeling. I'm going to cruise CL or Ebay for a used one, I can see this game and a case of beer making for a fun evening for a bunch of bored surf musicians. Wink

Danny, I'll definitely chip in some $$.

Beer + Guitar Hero = fun.

How did DK get on there? Crazy.

If you think this games soundtrack is bad try playing 'Dance Dance Revolution' Thumbs Down

I'm up for playing some Dead Kennedys... Although, I can play that song on bass, plus about five others... So, the game still isn't very worthwhile.

That last tier is ten kinds of screwy. I can play "Police Truck." There's no way in hell I could play "Electric Eye" or "Seventeen" (or ever want to, for that matter).

From today's Wall Street Journal "The Informed Reader" section (which has short summaries of articles from other sources):

Guitar Gently Reaps Notice Due to Popular Videogame
• SALON -- AUG. 15

Videogames that allow users to pretend to play the electric guitar might represent the instrument's best hope to reverse a decline in popularity, Farhad Manjoo writes on Salon's Machinist, a technology blog.

Guitar teachers say the popular videogame "Guitar Hero" has been sending business their way, even if the game seems to have little in common with learning to play an actual instrument. The game's fake guitar might have no strings, but as players mimic strumming along to the game's hard-rock classics, they learn rhythm and how to use their hands independently , says one teacher.

More importantly, "Guitar Hero" makes guitar-based music seem exciting to a generation that hears less and less of it on the radio, teachers say.

A guy I work with went out and bought a guitar after getting hooked on the game. He told me the guitar was a lot harder than the game and I don't know if he will continue.

Funny that this thread has popped up again. One of my close friends just got Guitar Hero at her house. I've been playing it far too much. I've finally moved from skill level Medium to Hard.

Science friction burns my fingers.

In case anybody here is interested, there is a way to actually change the songs on Guitar Hero II. www.scorehero.com
With doing this, you can actually play any song you could ever want. Just go into forums, and into the homebrew section.
