At long last, I'm proud to offer up my Ennio Fuzz for all you crazy fuzz-lovin' folks here on SG101!
If you've been looking for that crazy, gnarly, 60s buzzsaw sound, this is your huckleberry. It absolutely nails all the classic Spaghetti and fuzzed-out Ventures - more treble than you can shake a Tele at, with those crazy horn-like ghost tones and all. I wasn't satisfied with the current Fuzzrite-style pedals on the market, so I set out to make one with all the tone of the original, but with some key modern updates and build quality.
Main Features:
- Handwired point-to-point construction on perfboard
- Solid components throughout - 2N4401 transistors, Alpha pots, Neutrik jacks, etc.
- All jacks are top-mounted on a 125B enclosure to maximize the squeeze factor on the pedal board
- True bypass switching w/ both 9V battery and DC power
- One very well-placed LED
- Paint job is covered in multiple coats of clear urethane for longevity
I've sold quite a few of these on eBay and The Gear Page since my first batch, but have waited to offer it up until now for one big reason - I also wanted to have my Ennio "Trilogy Edition" ready to go at the same time!
Additional Features of the "Trilogy Edition"
- The Trilogy Switch, which is a toggle switch on top that lets you choose between three levels of gain: Il Buono, Il Brutto or Il Cattivo (or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly for you non-Spaghetti speakers!)
- Additional graphics that put the pattern from The Man With No Name's serape on either side of the pedal!
I'll have some sound clips posted shortly to hear what the Trilogy Switch adds to this pedal, but basically it dials down the gain - similar to rolling back the volume knob - but without any loss of the treble that's so important to Fuzzrite-style circuits. This also lets you access those tones while keeping unity gain, so you can stomp the madness on/off mid-song without having to reach for your volume knob, which is key for us surf guitarists that have enough going on without adding a volume knob into the mix! It turns the pedal into an aggro overdrive with a lot of bite and snarl, and when you want to go back into the gnarliness, just flick the switch and you're there, baby!
These rough samples were recorded wit a -> Stock Ennio -> Tascam DP-004 Line In jack, so the following caveats apply:
1. Please excuse the playing!
2. Please excuse the lack of reverb - It felt like sacrilege, because this type of fuzz just doesn't sound right to me without surftacular reverb, but I wanted to give everyone the best listen at the circuit itself without distraction.
3. I didn't level adjust after the fact, so the volume might be a bit uneven in places.
4. Even though this circuit is all about the single-note stuff, I've included some D-minor chord stuff just for mayhem's sake.

I'm a bit confused. Are both jacks on the top?
I understand there is the standard and trilogy pictured, but I'm just a bit turned around on which is which.

Nick -- Yes, both input, output and DC power jacks are on top of the pedal. I use a pretty small pedal board, so I like to keep things pretty tight, and when I set about designing the Ennio I figured that if I could keep everything topside and save players space, why not?

Also - On the drive home today I realized I forgot to mention two things in my original post...
1) I'm actually up for trades on a short list of a couple pedals. In lieu of payment for a stock Ennio, I'd be willing to take a Way Huge Aqua Puss reissue, a Malekko Ekko 300B or Menatone Blue Collar. I'd also be willing to put either Ennio version plus cash toward a Fender outboard reverb tank. That's about it for now, though.
2) I'm also "Custom Shop Capable" with these, so if you have some crazy combo or creation in mind, we can use the Ennio as a starting point and go nuts. For instance, these are some build pics of Ennio #016, which was my first custom finish. He wanted something completely crazy and unique, so that's exactly what we went for!

Hey Nicholaus -- That's funny! I have to say, eBay's been pretty steady for me with the Ennio, and I'd say about half of my sales have been to random eBay buyers. Great to hear you've come across me twice, though!

Man, that looks sooooooo sweet. I've been on a search for a wicked silicon fuzz. I had the Big Foot FX spaghetti western for a while, then was looking at yours but couldn't figure out if you were still making them, then settled on the Catalinbread Merkin. How does this compare, sound wise, to the Merkin? Is there a big difference between running it with a carbon battery vs. ac power?

HenryAdams - Most definitely still making them. Finishing out three this weekend, in fact, and then it's onto the next batch. On batteries, I definitely hear a difference between a 9V power supply and a not-quite-100% battery. It doesn't necessarily sound bad, but to my ear supply gives it more volume and a bit more harmonic interest. I know some guys like to sag batteries on fuzz pedals, but with the Ennio I feel like it just takes away some of the juice that makes this thing so much fun.
And I can't speak to the tone of the Merkin, as I've never played through one, but I will say that my Trilogy Edition is the only Fuzzrite/Maestro/60s pedal I'm aware of that has selectable gain... and it's cheaper.

Hey Ty, could you put up some sound samples or youtube videos through an amp? The two youtube videos somebody has up vs your sound samples actually sound pretty different. The youtube ones have a lot more high end which is confusing me a little.
Also two questions:
-I have always had a worry that with surftacular reverb, a Maestro fuzztone type pedal would put the tank into uncontrollable polyphonic feedback. Considering that there's no return option on ebay for these I feel this is an important concern. IN SHORT, I know that obviously these are gunna be trebly in nature, I am just overly worried about extra treble being added and messing with my EQ.
-Would it cost any extra for me if I asked for one with the colors inverted? As in the black around the pedal and the cactus and man with no name in white?

Those are indeed one and the same. I usually set the opening price just a bit above my "Forum Price" to make up for the eBay fees - Although in this case it's even since the Trilogy is a newer release - and then I throw a Buy It Now for buyers not wanting to wait, as I've actually been surprised buy people who'll pop off the BIN to get it on the way sooner.

For anyone interested, I do have a "blem" enclosure I could build up - I mistakenly drilled a 1/4" hole for the top toggle on the opposite site. I've filled it, sanded and repainted, but I can't sell it out at the normal price in good conscience.
Let's say $75 Standard or $125 Trilogy plus shipping for the fixer, if anyone's looking to get fuzzed up and save.
