It's a great feeling to find something so cool that you didn't know,or knew very little about before.

My friend Jopi from The Moments sent me that 35 min video....that thing ROCKS!!

Such great music! Wonder if it's on DVD somewhere?

You're not drunk if you can put your socks on while standing.

man i found a finnish rautalanka.org forum and signed up but i dont speak finnish

i bet there is lots and lots of cool stuff to read about! damn!!!

That looks like a great forum but....how do we translate to English?

Maybe http://translate.google.com/ ?

It says you can put a URL in the box. I used it to translate a Bambi Molesters page once, it worked great.

Hi, its my first post on this forum. Im from finland and its nice to see that you are intrested in finnish rautalanka. Rautalanka is similar to surf but songs are mostly slavic folk songs with twist comp/ surf beat and lots of tape echo. And its true that Finnish language dont translate well with translators you find on internet.

hi welcome where in finland are you from? are you on the rautalanka forum aswell?

Im from helsinki. I read the rautalanka forum as well but never posted anything. Ive been listening to rautalanka and surf for a long time but started playing guitar about 2 years ago. So youre originally from finland too. Which town? D

im from pietarsaari but my family moved to norway when i was a kid..
i wish i could read the rautalanka forum but i cant read finnish.
guess there is allot of knowledge about rautalankan music over there.

Yes there is. Its nice forum. btv. I dont know any norwegian guitar bands from sixties similar to rautalanka. Im sure there have been some bands. It would be nice to hear some of them.

Thanks for sharing...diggin' this big time!

Check out the Zodiacs from the early '60s Norway. Not exactly rautalanka, but close enough....

Hopefully, anyone who listens to my show knows what a big fan of rautalanka music I am! I play along with it a lot when I'm at home. Here's a video of "Magic Carpet," by the Quiets. I also tabbed it out, showing the chords and the lead. I'll try to paste it here. If that doesn't work, feel free to PM me and I can email it to you.
<later> Oops. That didn't work. I'm now editing it to only show the chords.

Didn't work Cry It's a .doc file that won't change to .txt without misaligning everything. So, I can't post it to the tab section. I changed my previous post to show only the chords. Again, PM me if you'd like the file ...

great song is Magic Carpet a Shadows tune or did they write it.....

Facebook pages theSupertones
or @ Timothy C Sullivan

"Magic Carpet" is originally by the Dakotas, of "The Cruel Sea" fame, a '60s UK band also well-known for being Billy J. Kramer's backing band. The song "Magic Carpet" was actually written by George Martin - yes, that George Martin! He was their producer. Though clearly there are overlaps, I'd say "Magic Carpet" is simply UK '60s instro music, not really rautulanka (though some original '60s rautulanka bands covered '60s UK instros such as as the Sounds from Finland - most definitely a rautalanka band - covering "Golden Earrings" and "Teen Scene" by the Hunters from the UK - it's all quite interconnected...)
