ok i didnt think soo since finnish rautalankan music isnt
a big genre, but its similar to surf music.

what i also woundered about
was the effcts use in this kinda music is it the same as in trad surf?
just a reverb unit to a clean fender amp.. or is there moore to it compressor
or somthing? any thougt on this? i dont seem to get this smooth tone
out of my xaviere jazzmaster and fender twin amp

I love the sound of Rautalanka!! Some great bands and instrumental music.
The Quiets
The Secrets
The Steelers
The Road Runners
The Mustangs
Agents.....etc.

In Rautalanka music, they tend to use delays more than reverb tanks. It has more in common with the Shadows than surf. Very cool song, and video. thanks for sharing! I had never heard of these guys.

Bob

yeah ron rhodes i really like it too, agents is great and the sounds and..and
many great finnish bands
what kind of delay would that be robbie.. i have a boss dd-3
would this work?any tips on settings? yeah just came over this band myself
and thought it was great
and the song really sticks in the brain after hearing it must be good Big Grin

I use a Carbon Copy MXR delay thru my amp with the reverb cranked with either my Stratocaster or Burns Marquee to get a sound like that. I like that kinda dark spooky tone once in a while...nothing wrong with a little variety!! Oh, and The Shadows are GREAT!! Not surf, but great anyway.

I would love to go to Finland and play some music with the boys!! Big Grin

but the rythm gitar guy must have a spring reverb unit right?really
nails the drip sound i wish i could get. looks like a squire strat too??????

ron i will check out the carbon.. there is allot of spooky minor chords in this style too Shock

I like it a lot, too, very cool! But, it looks there are three different sets of people in the 'band' in that video. What's going on, anybody know?

The Sounds are great indeed! One of my favorite of the modern finnish bands, though I don't think they're very active anymore, is The Quiets. Also, a Rautalanka thread can't be without a reference to The Strangers doing Kolme Kitaraa

I was embarrassed not to have noticed a change, so I looked pretty carefully. I think it's just the same four over time in three different places with different hair and outfits. Most likely the garage scene was filmed last and prefaced to two available gig sequences to make a "rising band" plot sequence. The guitarists change their hats and hair the most; the drummer the least.

bangbang: yeah in finland alott of the music is influenced by gypsy
music hence allot of minor keys and stuff. weird it goes by two guitars
thoug since i know kolme means three in finnish. do
you know if there is a video or a track for someone playing the
gypsy version? would be cool to see/hear aswell

Tuck: i think thats what happend too

Loving this thread! I guess I have heard more rautalanka than I originally thought, though I have simply been lumping many of these bands (like The Strangers) into a general "European" category along with The Shadows, mostly based on the strong melodies with echo. This really does do this unique sound a disservice, as there really is a noticeable Slavic-folk influence apparent to me now.
