Hello everyone,

It's been a while. I'm totally focused on getting my cancer cured while not catching anything else. But there's pretty good news. This excerpt from my March 27th Cancer Chronicle 17 shares the results of my latest CT scan.

My mid-term test results are in and I passed the test, with a few qualifications and the need for extra tests today and in the coming weeks. To clarify, most important is that after receiving half my chemotherapy my cancerous lymph nodes have seen significantly more reduction than by half. My cancer isn’t gone, but it has responded very well to treatment. It was a lot to expect it to be seventy-five percent gone, let alone fully gone. But reductions in size by well over half is still excellent. The question which remains that has no answer yet is whether today’s and each of the remaining two more treatments will produce linear results resulting in being cancer-free, or if it’s more like always half the distance to the goal but never quite getting there. I will likely but not certainly need follow-up spot radiation treatments.

As always, thank you all very much for your support, encouragement, and most of all love. I wish us all to be safe and well.

Happy trails!

Good news, Noel. I had thought about sending you a pm last week but I'm aware that people may want to be left alone to deal with life sometimes. Best wishes to you and your family. Smile

Headstrong and focused Noel!

The Cancer Chronicles – 22 Almost Totally Completely Excellent News

July 2, 2020

The PET scan revealed all my lymph glands show no cancer! The PET scan revealed all my lymph glands show no cancer! Dad died from lymphoma, so the significance of the PET scan results tower over me. The decision by my oncology team to push the treatment envelope to the limit and be as aggressive as possible, relying on my otherwise good health to tolerate the treatment and respond to it was successful. They started this by saying they wouldn’t settle for less than completely cancer free. So they are very happy with the test results. But…

Two issues remain. Possibly. While surgery New Year’s Eve removed the enlarged and cancerous left testicle, the right showed a spot on the back side. Subsequent CT and ultrasound scans showed inconclusive results. It seems testes always light up the tests. Say that five times fast. Anyway, it happened again in the PET scan. I’m going to have another ultrasound on July 7. Any result other than conclusively cancer-free means I’m going to get radiation treatments just to be sure. The other issue is my brain. All the various scans and tests of my brain found nothing. Go ahead and joke all you want. I do. The concern is the fast track of cancer to the brain from the testes is still a risk as long as there is uncertainty about cancer on the remaining testicle. As a result, my lead oncologist is going to consult with the head of neurological radiation to decide if my brain should receive ten doses of radiation in ten days to settle the matter once and for all. My hair is growing back nicely. But now I have to shave my ears again. I’m still looking forward to not needing a nightlight to see in the dark, so this could work out to my advantage all the way around. I won’t know more until the results of the ultrasound.

More good news. I start eliminating the remaining drugs from my daily routine tomorrow. They should all be stopped by the end of the month. And, they only want blood work once a month, eventually dropping down to every other month. My days as a pin cushion are over. Other than a discussion over the phone about the ultrasound and what if any radiation treatments are required, I’ll be seeing my oncologists every two months, which is also when I’ll have my chest port flushed. I’ve been told I can start back up with my dentist and other delayed doctor visits as soon as I can get appointments. Additionally, I’m now allowed to go back on my diet to lose weight. And I may exercise vigorously again. Ha! I need some repairs before I can do that. But any appearances in public will be accompanied by the same necessary maximum precautions I took back in January to avoid exposure to every possible source of bacterial or viral infection. I cannot be too safe, but I mustn’t be not safe enough.

Some neuropathy in my fingers has prevented me from successfully playing guitar. I can't control a pick, and my fingers feel numb enough I can't reliably feel contact with the strings. But I'm told this will fade quicker as more time passes. I'm waiting and ready!

I have spent the last six and a half months living as a cancer patient. I look forward soon to living as a cancer survivor. I can’t ring the bell yet. But it sure looks like it won’t be long.

As always, thank you all very much for your support, encouragement, prayers, and love. You are helping me tremendously, everyone. I love you all and can’t wait to see everyone again. Stay safe and well.

Happy trails!

Wonderful news Noel, so happy to hear!

Great news indeed.

Los Fantasticos

Congratulations, Noel. You made it sound easy and I'm sure it wasn't.:) I hope the rest goes well for you. With no immune system, this wasn't the best time to go through this. Hibernating in the cave sounds good. Smile

Such great news Noel!

Congratulations for sure!

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Great news!

Some wonderful light in these dark times. Thank you for sharing and I am personally glad you’re coming out the other side! The guitar playing breaks my heart, but as you’ve seen it’s not the end of the world. (I’m forced to take a break myself at the moment.) You’ve kept such a positive attitude, it’s helped me to see that. I hope to be hearing some wicked tunes from you soon man. Surf is not the easiest style to play, but I feel your body will step up to it. These things are always so awkward, but you have made it less so by sharing. The Go Noel Sound!
