Attention Eleki fiends and the merely Eleki curious: On Monday, I am very lucky to have a visit with the editor of Japan's New Eleki Dynamica magazine. If you have any questions at all about Eleki- the bands, the instruments, history, current bands, whatever- fire away and I'll ask him. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

It would be interesting to learn more about the song カラス by Yuzo Kayama. It's not on any of his 3 partly instrumental 60s albums. A short sample of it can be heard here, track 18: http://www.neowing.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=MUCD-1045 I suspect it's originally from a movie soundtrack, and if that's the case, which movie and what year? — |

And who was first using a Mosrite, Yuzo or Terry? I know Yuzo got his as a gift from the Ventures and that Terry's was originally sunburst and then later refinished black. — |

Yuzo Kayama used one first. Yes, Terry repainted his sunburst black. Any other questions? I am going to try and get a timeline of Terry's carreer now. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

-Do any recordings exist of Terry's pre-Eleki country band? -Are there plans to reissue any more albums from that era? (Similar to the recent spate of reissues commemorating Terry's 40th anniversary as a performer.) -Which modern acts does he see as carrying the torch for the 60s eleki movement? -What are the five albums he'd recommend for someone just getting into the style? —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. Sasaki says this song is called Karasu, which mean "Crow". The album you linked to is part of a compilation series of music from the Young Guy movies. Two members of The Planets went on to become permanent members of Kayama's backing band The Launchers. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

Honshu Cowboys never recorded anything, although they were very popular with GI in Yokosuka
His first CD "Movin" is not available, not reissued.
Jackie and the Cedrics, El Caminos, Charlie and the Hot Wheels, Blue Horizon

Interesting to know since their Mosrite guitars became very much associated with both of them.
Again, interesting to know, especially considering Kayama to my knowledge only recorded a little over a dozen instrumentals in the 60s. Thanks for asking the questions! And if it isn't too late, it would be great if you could ask the editor if he knows about any future plans on releasing Utau Wakadaisho on DVD. As far as I know it has only been available on a VHS which is now out of print. — |

If it's not too late, I would like to ask Mr. Sasaki what keyboard was used on the 60's recordings, particularly the Terry and The Blue Jeans stuff. Also, what was the most popular fuzz tone. Thanks! —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

He thinks it has been released on DVD in Japan in a box set w/ Eleki Wakadaisho and Daigaku no Wakadaisho. —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

The keyboard players last name was Suzuki. Sasaki thinks the keyboard was a Teisco, made in Japan. He doesn't remember the maker of the fuzz box, but he describes it as very primitive. Simon- I'm playing Vibrasonic for him now —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

Good question Warren. What do you think of this list? (And thanks to Ferenc.) |

Thanks to Ferenc for this - some truly great information.
I think it's a really good list - you can't go wrong with any of his recommendations.* A friend had asked me recently. (I'd recommended two different Terauchi Takeshi albums, a different Yuzo Kayama one and the same Sharp Five one, plus a comp.)
