My usual tools for the hybrid picking I do:
The plastic thingie is a Dunlop Ultex triangle 73. For songs that involve strumming I usually use a 60 instead of a 73. I sandpaper them sharp. For the nails I use Cover Girl. It's not just for covers. —Insanitizers! http://www.insanitizers.com |

Yeah - do you think there's a violin forum where they're talking about bows? In any case, I prefer something heavy and I've been going back and forth between 2 different picks lately. 1) Dunlop Tortex Pitch Black Jazz (1.14mm) - great feel and response with these. I don't really get all the comments about lousy tone with a Tortex pick - I like what I get with these. and Mark There are no wrong notes, just some questionable choices. |

wegen bluegrass picks, all the way. they've got the whomp of a heavy pick, but still have some give and don't hurt your hand as much with prolonged use. they also sound really bright. basically, they were made for playing big acoustic guitars with big strings in a setting where other instruments are usually louder. plus they're hand carved, and they have speed holes. |

don't know if it was mentioned... but BRAIN PICKS! they saved my life. the grip is amazing. I was using some tortex picks and had to really tighten up for the pick to stay put during harder picking. Got the orange 1.14 ones. — |

I use the over sized bass type picks myself. I've got .38 right now but would prefer something a bit closer to .50. I've got a problem with breaking lots of strings so I've gradually gone up to 12g strings while using the lightest picks possible. Trying to get used to lighter picks these days. |

All about the Dunlop Tortex .73mm - the yellow ones. Have been playing them for over 15 years; we now have our own custom ones from Dunlop.

I think Tortex lasts longer than Moshay. I've cracked a couple Moshay picks. I've never even worn down a tortex, bass playing friends have though. Tortex sounds better to me as well. Nylon certainly has its purposes. I like nylon for acoustic, but I like tortex for electric. Tortex is quicker as well. |
