Last night's show (1/22) was fun - calls are beginning to come in from listeners who like the new time 8-9PM Pacific. I hope that the radio show encourages more people to attend live shows. I hope that I am introducing some listeners to the genre - especially the (young) ones who don't remember Phil Dirt. Around here, many venues don't open their doors until 9pm on weekends anyway. People have come up to me at recent live shows to thank me, saying that they knew about the live show only because I mentioned it on the air. It's pretty typical at KFJC on evening shows to promote live shows that are happening on the same evening - among other reasons, it gives us a chance to mention our archives as in "if you go to the show, you can always find out later what you missed here at KFJC by listening to the archives". Giving surf musicians a wider audience and more support for their recordings is part of why I do this. Cousin Mary |

Mary, It was funny. That was almost word for word from a conversation I overheard between Ellie and her girlfriend last summer. Asher Nolan is an amazing local pro surfer who is considered old (at 28 ), and Piper Austin is one of the best up and coming local girls at 15. Yeah, I figured the "old" guy was probably in his 20's. My 28-year-old son is a surfer so that's how I was picturing him. I have a grown daughter, too, so I remember those phone conversations... I like the album a lot, hope to play more tracks on the air in the future. |
