Anyone got pics or a review of their debut yesterday at Hotel Utah? I couldn't make it to the show but am really curious about this band.

How did it go? Hmmmm. It's tough to be objective about these things- so I won't! Discounting all my f-ups and completely awkward stage presence, not to mention my wife's bizarre last minute costumes ( I love you honey ) WE KICKED ASS! Will I ever live this down? Wait until we get our real costumes to find out:
I'd like to think that we bring a slightly different energy to surf music, at least locally, hopefully others will think so. I was real encouraged at our show Saturday night at the Bike Kitchen, the whole crowd had to be under 25. We followed an incredibly loud very dischordant noise band with Marshalls on 11. People seemed to like them, but they just kind of stand there trying to look like they get it or atleast are cool enough to handle the aural onslaught. When we took the stage, I think the crowd was surprised to hear music that is actually fun and easy to get, they were jumping around, cheering, air guitaring 8O, just eating it up. It's good to know we can connect with the hipster crowd. Of course playing the Utah is like preaching to the masses. The crowd seemed to respond really well to our songs and playing. Lots of people there too for a beautiful Sunday afternoon. There was quite a variety yesterday at the Utah; our high energy, dense, fast surf style, PDM's psychedelic moody artfulness and the Whys lo-fi bare bones surf rock. Not to mention our respective outfits: Goofy, Streetwear, and Bikinis - guess who wins?
If you're really curious, we posted a couple poor quality videos on youtube of Saturday night, more may follow from Sunday, Cosmos 954 by the Nebulas and Maelstrom, the #1 download on SG101 : [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdUFzD1v_P8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSPQEmCn-KA ](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdUFzD1v_P8%3Cbr/%3E%3Cbr/%3Ehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSPQEmCn-KA) I'd like to hear from any SG101'ers that were there, please be honest, I'm not fishing for compliments. So that's it for live shows for a bit, we're going to work on our stage outfits and gear and recording a demo and putting together a myspace page. Most importantly, we're going to really tighten up our playing, oy! —Danny Snyder Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF |

Danny and the Tomorrow Men: congratulations on launching a new band and playing your first gig. I loved your demo mp3, and can't wait to hear more material! What did you play at your first show? Covers and your own stuff? —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Thanks Brian, here was our set list: Cosmos 954 - Nebulas 3 Nebulas songs. When I first started playing surf music I felt the Nebulas were closest to where I wanted to start with my take on this music. So I learned all their songs and when I started playing with people I pulled them out, since I knew them already. I just have to say without any hyperbole, there'd be no TomorrowMen without SG101. My photo doesn't add much to what has already been posted, but The TomorrowMen had a great set. (I'm sorry Tony Bologna can't be seen in this pic.) I really dug the original tunes, of course the covers were tasty as well. Carry on, Danny and Tony! Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |
