From a link flatwound01 posted about DD's cabinets, that same website has the photos and article from the August 30, 1963 issue of Life.

Hard to believe one could actually make big bucks from this music, huh?

Dick Dale was probably the coolest guy ever on this planet!!

He lived less than a mile from me & I had no idea he even existed.

....cool site, I'm glad that scans of those pages are available online...

wait who are we talkin about??

j/k

Klas, when you said was, did you mean was. or is?
not judging, just wondering??

D.D. had to be the most dynamic performer around in 1963. He is (even now) a very charismatic performer/ the ladies love him. I can't imagine what it was like when he was "young and thin" ( his words). I'll bet he's the kind of guy people would follow around just to be near him.

Awesome link Brian - I've always wanted to read the article.

I meant what I wrote since he's definitely no longer the coolest guy on the planet. On the other hand, I don't think there are that many cool guys around at all these days.

I wonder when he stopped listening to his own advice about "You must learn humility" Laughing I love him, but there are very few who can truly pull off the "Imperial We" when talking.

Ha, I guess he's also changed his stance on the short pants and capris rule. Lord knows when I'm on stage the sight of all those bare female ankles just gets me whipped into a frenzy.
