Zak are they using some kind of fuzz effect, I have heard this fuzz kind of tone on The Venture records but could never make it out?

I believe it's just the sound of these cool Teisco-Amp when cranked up.
Sounds similar to my Dynacord.

Very cool! And really interesting with a genuine live take. Short glimpses of this footage appears in the trailer to "Eleki No Wakadaisho" although it isn't present in the full movie.

There is no fuzz. It is hardly overdriven. That is like my tubescreamer on 0. As bill points out it is nice and dry. If there were the amount of reverb that we are used to it would sound like normal surf song tonally.
