Just found out the sad news today. Jim Hurley was truly a remarkable person. I new him at the end of his life and he taught me so much in a short period of time. He was a great musician and an amazing luthier. The type that you will never find a replacement for. He was also one of the most acomplished pedal steal players I have ever met. Here is his obituary. A native of Ruskin, he moved to this area 24 years ago from Louisiana.
He owned and operated Jim Hurley Guitar Shop for 12 years. He was a professional lifetime musician and songwriter. A luthier, he was skilled in the art of stringed instrument repair. He served 9 years in the United States Air Force where one of his jobs was in top-secret documents.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; his son, Matt; two daughters Patricia Mayo of Charlotte, NC, and Robin White of Mechanicsville, MD; a sister Lillie Houghtaling of Ruskin; a brother Lewis Hurley; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his son James Hurley Jr. _
