Sure there are many, many more, but if had to have just one CD...those would be on it for sure..........ed —Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps? |

pretty much all of the songs that everyone has posted are way up there in my book. Its really hard to say what I like best. because I dont pigeonhole my self into one type of surf/instro, I like all of the sub genres. I'll try to think of some. Jeff(bigtikidude) —Jeff(bigtikidude) |

I'll put my flame-retardant jumpsuit on for this one...I like Johnny Barakat's version of The Wedge better than Dick's. —Shawn Martin |

Better is bit moot, because the original was pretty good. But I know what you mean. It's new and improved. It adds something nice. I like it when somebody adds a little touch that improves on things. My only objection might be "not the Malaguena riff again." Because so often that is the little touch that people add to a surf song. But this may be one of the first occasions, maybe even the first. I'm a little vague on dates. |

I don't have the CD in front of me (I'm goofing off at work), but I'm thinking that Barakat's was from 63-64'. The Malaguena riff hadn't yet become the cliche —Shawn Martin |

With the usual provisos that there's no special ordering and that this is not for once all time, just kind of current:
I cheated by leaving out some of the major hits, and, trying to get down to ten, I left out some similar items, so maybe this is slanted toward variety. Last edited: Sep 12, 2007 10:28:55 |

I would've picked Greased Lightning but not everyone has my great ear for brilliance —Shawn Martin |

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Theme from Grease yet |

Chris, you know that the Bitch Boys did the soundtrack for a recent Slovenian musical version of Grease (locally called "Briljantina")? —Rules to live by #314: |

I'm having a great deal of trouble assembling my list, but a few songs that haven't been mentioned yet that are personal faves of mine: Pintor - The Pharos That isn't quite ten or meant to be my definitive list... The Atlantics have many, many great songs, but for some reason Rumble & Run stands out to me for being so damn bad-ass tough and mean, especially for the time. I like the stinging guitar intro, the scale climbing tension in the guitar verses followed by the nice dizzying counterpoint in the chorus, the power of the rhythm section, the police sirens, the violent muted guitar glissandos, all in what, 2:45 or something? Wow. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |
