Looks like he's deleting everything he posted after a contentious exchange in another thread last week.

Last update/mod I made was on this Rarities Strat. I'm auditioning for a local band here in a few weeks and they do a fair bit of stuff in Drop D. I've used these Guitar Xtenders on other guitars for years (well, DECADES really) and love them. The only "problem" with them is you have to drill a hole in the back of the headstock to properly fit them. No more! For Fender players, they make a version with the two pins, a drop-in replacement. Of course, with a Strat you have to block the bridge (or at least deck it) for maximum effectiveness, but I have other Strats, so I can block this one and I did.

image

You can see it a lot better here. I was able to swap the button from the Fender tuner onto the Xtender so they all look the same to the casual viewer.

If anybody's interested in the walk-through of installing & setting up the Xtender, I made a video ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czSXnqd3rXc

Hey I'm really sorry to hear about Tqi disappearance as well.

The internet and specialty forums are full of great experiences shared between cyber 'friends '.
I feel at times quite connected to some whom I have never met in person. But you can tell by the exchange in messages if you share a common passion or not.
For me Tgi has shared that in my experience here on SG101.
But that deep passion for the love of something, like Surf guitar, can so easily be destroyed in a public forum with only a few bad posted exchanges.
Psychologically speaking, the internet can be a very harsh and unhealthy place to express yourself because of this.
Anyone can come in and train wreck a good discussion.
If after a thoughtful post by myself, putting out a decent amount of information regarding no particular topic, that I then got engaged into a heated debate with an opposing viewpoint, I might question why I even bothered.
It only takes one real jerk to make me want to bail.

Tqi if you read this just understand that I get it.
I honestly was inspired by your feedback to some of the posts I made and you were the direct reason I jumped on board to make a sparkle painted guitar.
I hope you are not lost to SG101 forever.

Sad, but true. The Internet can be very harsh. I moderate the Gretsch-Talk forum and I have learned a lot about human behavior from that experience. Many people are neutral, willing to give and take equilaterally, and this works. Unfortunately, some people come in, looking to cause trouble. After years of moderation, I can sense such people relatively quickly, and on those rare occasions when I have to ban someone, I’m rarely surprised that they acted up.

Sometimes it’s better to let others have their opinions, even if you think that they are wrong.

I sympathize.

If I'd stop buying old guitars to fix, I might actually learn to play.
Bringing instruments back to life since 2013.

The way the light hits it, in this photo, it almost looks like a very cool burst finish.

It's a uniform paint, not a burst.
But I used products b Roth Rattle Bomb and this required numerous stages of paints.
Between the sparkle and final gloss is a layer of 'Kandy' which is keyed to the main sparkle color of 'Custard Pie '
This created depth to the sparkle and has an element of almost color shift.
I plan to make a video of this in very good sunlight, because no pictures really do justice.

It’s definitely an optical illusion of lighting and how it interacts with the metalflake. Sunlight is our friend. Smile

Onto another Jaguar major modification upgrade to this newly acquired FSR Squier in blue sparkle!
It's going to be all rewired with a 62' design using new pickups, CTS pots and resistors.
Also a Fender Pro Tremolo and bridge as well.
I just love working on these guitars!
The guitar had seen pro setup before with previous owner with a bone nut filed properly for light flatwound strings, and is exactly what is going back on it.

That finish is perfect.

I agree! And I am on a sparkle kick right now..
I have given my best shot at metal flake painting 2 other guitars myself, using the Daddy Roth Rattle bomb spray cans, and tho they came out nice, you just can't get the huge flake sparkle without a professional painting operation.
I decided to go the other route and buy one already painted, and I was shopping a lot for just the body until this listing came up on eBay.

These FSR Squiers were a limited run a few years ago, probably not going to be produced again. I wonder how many were likely made?

It was brand new with all the plastic film still on the pickguard and plates. So I thought it a well-worthy investment to modify it from here. The indian laurel neck is pretty nice too, narrow tall frets (which I have recently come to appreciate on my new Fender Pro Jazzmaster), and the binding with block inlays.
Just out of the box, this already sounded really nice, albeit a bit of 60-hum, which shall be completely remedied with shielding grounds.
The PUs were not bad, the bridge more modern and harsh.
But I have pure Fender PUs going in regardless, the neck is a Jaguar Pro (I had it already laying around) the bridge to be reissue 62' vintage.

I'll post progress of the build.

I agree - that finish looks great. If I was going to acquire another Jaguar, I'd look for one of those and do pretty much the same you are doing.

A few years ago, I refinished a Squier Mustang in blue metallic, which looks good, but the large flake sparkle effect looks even better.

Fret job and shielding progress!
The frets were not that bad but needed work to my high standards.
I made a new narrow tall sanding block from delrin, then using small cut pieces of 600 grit, I crown every fret first. Then I begin taking survey of anything high. Get everything true, then one more pass for crowns.
I will use a rotary polish tool next to give mirror finish.
The body is getting my standard copper shielding with one chamber left.

The electronics are slowly arriving in the mail, so that will begin soon.

Happy with the way the fret job came out! Helps to have the right tools - my faithful Foredom rotary flex shaft.

I agree, it's pretty nice for a Squier that's for sure.
I just bought the Montys instrument food wax to treat next. Not the darkening stain, just the yellow wax.
It should really deepen the wood color from here though.

The only thing I don’t love about my CV Squier is the fingerboard wood doesn’t look right to me. It’s not horrible, but it’s certainly not as pretty as what is on your guitar.

From what I’ve heard, the Rosewood situation has improved, of late. In the case of my Squier, the guitar is one of those accidents of mass production where all the pieces come together perfectly and a guitar turns out to play and sound much better than you expect of an instrument in its price range. It’s a shame that it couldn’t have had a beautiful fingerboard with actual rosewood.

The Indian Laurel fretboard on my Squier 70's Jag was very dry out of the box and had that dusky grey pallor to it. It just needed a good going over with fret board oil/conditioner to look much better...just don't expect it to look just like a nice piece of rosewood. To me, the Indian Laurel sits somewhere between rosewood and ebony. Harder and smoother than Rosewood but not as hard and smooth as Ebony. IMO, it looks and feels much better than most of the Pauo Ferro I've seen on some imports.
