Just did a mod to my basement pedal board.
This was my first design built and has become my secondary board.
I needed drop slots for the patch chords and power lines. Also needed a custom patch chord length.
It's super clean now!

Today I got a new Catalinbread Topanga Burnside. It's really nice and not heard a lot here on SG101 about it.
The Reverb is excellent, but now with 18v, great headroom.
The built in Tremolo circuit is very cool but not really vintage. It only enters the Reverb mix on the trails.
So it's very expressive and interesting to play with.

Now this pedal board has 4 Reverbs all very different.

I love my pedalboard, but your board is making me a bit jealous. Smile Nice choice of pedals and very, very clean.

Yup! Thanks TQI!

I'll tell you, I have tried numerous OD units, and the BM is really a great tool. I heard all the fuss with JHS show shoot out, and then his own rebuttal about the cost spikes in used market.
I am happy to say that I got a really good deal on this one, hardly used, its one of the original 'heavy chasis' models.

I know you are a big fan of the True Spring Reverb. And maybe you had, or still have a Topanga.

I have those other reverbs seen too, the BOING and the Obscura (which is very spacey)

For vintage reverb I feel the TS is very good, but the CatB has a very apparent 'spring' rattle like a real tank, tails shimmering far longer and deeper than the TS. I compare it too my SurfyBear Compact and the CatB has more! I would say at 50% Dwell for CatB equals the trails on the SurfB and the TS.
Comparre to the Priceton onboard tank, and still the CatB has more depth and trails fading.

The Tremelo circuit REPLACES the shimmering spring tails with Tremelo which enters and then fades only on the tails.

Its all so much fun!

Now the BOING is a different animal, more basic, but the best place for it is along with all the other pedal effects, for the best clean tones.
For instance, any of the good 'shimmer spring' pedals are so terrible IMO when you boost them with OD or even a lot of delay.
So the BOING is my lead with other pedals and does an excellent job in my loops.

BTW there is a lower deck pedal board at that basement studio bench setup.
Looper, clean drive, and a Wah.

I just checked Reverb.com and Bad Monkey prices seem to be coming down. I saw quite a number in the $90 price range. There were some at considerably higher prices, but that doesn’t mean that they are selling at the asking price.

Indeed, I love the True Spring, but I also have two Topangas. I find the Topanga to be excellent sounding for Surf reverb. I actually bought a True Spring for the tremolo, but found that I liked the reverb at least as well as the Topanga. One thing I like about the True Spring is that there are also switchable emulations for built-in reverbs, both in 9” and 17” lengths. I really find this useful, because I play a lot of different genres and, especially the 17” built-in style reverb, is great for Country.

We really have a lot of great options, these days. My tank is consigned to a music store, because I simply don’t feel that I need it anymore. Back in the fifties, a tremolo unit was a rarity (until the Vibrolux) and virtually no one had their own reverb. Nowadays, you can buy a reverb pedal for under $25. It may not be a great reverb, but even a cheap reverb pedal probably sounds pretty decent. I just saw, on Amazon, that there’s a $50 TC Electronic pedal that has Spring, Plate and Hall reverbs. It’s probably not great, but it’s still a lot better than the options available for the average person in 1960.

I still want to play a Boing.

This is kind of a change of topic, so new comment time! No news on the 3D printing, had a rough few days with work and just.. recovering from work, that I've not done any printing on another v5, v6 or stang bobbin.

Today though, I did half-assedly drill out a mustang control plate to accept Alpha pots - and found a capacitor for it. Naturally, I'm only using the very best capacitor, the Sprague Orange Drop. Please note that these crappy split-shaft pots are just some random used ones out of a parts bin - they're not even genuine Alpha, I think they came out of an Affinity Strat. Real, solid-shaft ones will be ordered.

I also found a couple of caps for the Jazzmaster:

Because the "orange drops sound different thing" is of course, complete horseshit. That said, it is nice to have a big solid component that you know is of good quality - so I am going to use this .05 OD in the Mustang. I think it was actually a pull from the Jagmaster I'm turning into a Jazzmaster. Meanwhile, I'm trying to cram both the rhythm and lead circuits into a single 2-pot control plate on the Jazzmaster - so clearly I'm not easily fitting these chonk-ass OD's in there in plural. These will work exactly as well. The highest quality came-in-a-random-box-of-maplin-capacitors-10-years-ago!

One small oddity - those who know the JM Schematic will know that the two caps are both .01. These are .01 and .005. Turns out 50K/1M pots aren't a thing either stacked or concentric! Who knew?

Didn’t you know, Orange Drops have 275% more mojo, per uF? Smile I agree, much of what is said about pots and caps would help the flowers grow in your garden, but that’s about the only value. I’m astonished by how much they charge for Orange Drops, these days. I guess the magic elves must’ve formed a labor union.

That having been said, and lacking a capacitance meter, there is value to knowing that you have quality components. The generic caps I used in my Jaguar build have been a bit of a disappointment, which I attribute to the caps not necessarily being anywhere close to spec. I intend to look into it, ASAP, and I might have to swallow hard and pay the toll for Orange Drops.

I've found quality pots do matter in a lot of cases - I've had some cheap ones go bad, and same with switches. I won't comment much on caps, but TQI, you don't need one that big. It's rated at 600V, which is way over what is ever needed in a guitar circuit, and a cap that size might be a pain in the ass to fit in the control cavity.

For certain, I use Switchcraft switches. I actually had a Switchcraft switch that was bad out of the box, when I did the wiring on my Jaguar, which surprised me to no end, but overall, Switchcraft has done well, by me.

For sure - the problem for me with Switchcraft comes with the 3 way toggle - we go from £7 to £30. Considering the cheap ones have never failed me in 20 years, that's a really tough sell. Compare that with going budget to Switchcraft for a jack or slide switch - budget is £3, SC is £6. As for the alpha slide switches I have - I originally bought these for the 6G14, and I think I just got whatever-the-shop-had since they're currently only decorative. I'll be buying Switchcraft ones for the Jag-Stang.

I saw this price jump and wondered if it was just a UK supply thing, but looking at prices in the US and they've also jumped up significantly. It's crazy. I can understand some price increase for inflation, supply issues, etc., and for one switch every now and then, that doesn't bother me. But this is a giant jump, so not sure what's going on here.

The neck is from a partscaster that I bought from someone in my neighborhood, I bought it for the neck because it feels great. This will be the third build the neck has been on ha ha. Unfortunately I can't identify who the manufacturer is.

Maybe someone can help identify?
There's this label on it:

Second picture features the following from left to right:
2017 Ford Focus RS
1984 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera
2001 Porsche 911 Turbo
2022 Triumph Speed Twin 1200

How about Fender? It's marked USA as well and looks like a 1995 date. Hope that's not disappointing!

Check out this Reverb listing for a 1995 neck with the same label:

https://reverb.com/item/63309140-fender-strat-left-handed-lefty-amber-finish-rock-maple-neck-stratocaster-vintage-1995-reverse-bone-nut

I guess the only reason I didn’t think it would be Fender is that it came to me with a terrible knockoff Fender decal, so I assumed it wasn’t authentic.

Do you have a photo of the headstock? The good thing is you can replace the crappy decal with whatever you want, and you could put on an actual Fender decal and not be trying to fool anyone.
