The VM Squire Jaguar is getting a departure from anything ordinary.
Fitting Jeff Beck Noiseless Stratocaster high output pickups.

The wiring, 3 way blade switch and CTS pots have already been upgraded from my last rebuild.
I'm after a modern tone without the 60 cycle hum.
I think it will still exhibit some vintage tone based on the JB Stratocaster I own.

I predict success. I’ve owned a couple of guitars with Fender Noiseless pickups, and the Jeff Beck Strats I’ve played have always sounded good.

I would never really have considered of doing this pickup exchang, if it were not for the outrageous deal I got on a set on eBay.
Of the 3 in set, the neck was DOA as advertised. The middle (which is the same a neck) and the Bridge were 100% working and both test out to 10.4Ohm.
So what else can you do with only 2 good PUs?
Cost $110 total which is same as a set of AVRI Jaguar PUs.
Brand new JB Noiseless complete sets go for $300.
My only challenge other than carving out the body cavities was how to mount them.
Much was considered.
The direction I chose today was to make a raised cover from an old Strat pickguard.
I glued these onto the top of a standard Jag pickguard.
I think it came out better than expected.
I should have no problem using standard pickguard mounting hardware at this point.

Good guess, but no! It's a bass pick. Very Happy

That’s a big pick.

Well, you're not wrong!

It's a Bachi, the pick used for a Shamisen. An anime bassist used one for a really interesting vibe, I wondered if that was just a visual gag or if they might have actually recorded like that - so I decided to print one and try it. Seems I'm not the only one with that idea, anyway.

So far a bit hit and miss on the Daisy Rock - there's not a lot of space around the pickups. Sounds cool though.

Ok. I have seen one of those before. With recent Asian ancestry in one branch of my family tree, I am fascinated by all things Asian, so I have to say that this is very cool. If it proves impractical for playing, it’s still an interesting curiosity to have around the house.

Dang! Now you’ve got me wanting a Shamisen, or maybe a girlfriend from Japan. Smile

I'm also tempted, but I'm thinking to stick with a Cigar Box guitar as a "close enough".

As for the "girlfriend from Japan".. my partner is Japanese, but has lived in the US most of her life. Her ancestry and place of birth doesn't exactly have a daily bearing on our lives. Everything she's into from Japan, there's something similar from my life - One Piece to Bocchi, Udon to Tofu, Kawasaki to Suzuki. So you might be setting yourself up for unexpected mundanity if you're hoping that your partner will arrive in a furisode and perform gidayū. ;P

Might be easier to just get your own Bachi. Do you have a 3D printer? If not, DM me your address. Razz

My Japanese girlfriend comment was entirely tongue in cheek. I am of 1/8 Asian ancestry, which is to say that I am mostly Caucasian in appearance, with the exception of my eyebrows, which are directly from the Gobi.

The Asian ancestry in my family was kept as a family secret for years; a rumor that was denied, in spite of the fact that my grandmother and at least one uncle and one aunt had an epicanthic fold on their eyelids. A DNA test confirmed the rumor and eventually I was able to pry the truth out of the family history.

I hold no preconceptions about Asian culture. Beneath the surface, all cultures, earthwide, have an exceptional degree of similarity. We may adapt to local conditions; for example, a culture which forms in a costal area will develop a different economy from a desert culture, but the basic rules are pretty similar.

I worked on an Indian Reservation for nearly two decades. The striking thing about being exposed to their culture, was how American they were. Backyard cookouts and pot luck gatherings were part of their culture, long before they were exposed to European immigrants. The American frontiersman was an amalgam of British and Native American influences. At the bottom of it all, humans are pretty much the same, everywhere.

As was my response. ;)

But thank you for telling me about your family. It's interesting! Smile

I'm Scots, English, Irish (in descending order of genetic contribution, based on family history). Mk 1 mongel brit. Very Happy

Top of the SEE YOU, cup of tea?

I’m a bit of a Scot myself, and some Swedish and Danish mixed in. This leaves me in continuous internal conflict. Smile

It's off the workbench and sounding awesome!
Project conversion of a Squire VM Jaguar to Jeff Beck Stratocaster Noiseless pickups,
I was not sure exactly what to expect.
Here are my comparisons to other similar guitars I own.

Overall the new Jag JB sounds nearly identical to a Jaguar with AVRI 62' PUs. They only differ when you begin to add overdrive, either through an amp or pedal. That's when 60 cycle hum is more obvious on the Jag 62'
The Noiseless pickups remain very quiet, while not playing and moving the guitar around the amplifier field.
Ultimately that was my goal, for use with overdrive amps and pedals.
With the added plus of vintage clean Jaguar sound.

I own a new Jeff Beck Stratocaster to also compare. They both exhibit similar power levels and obvious noiseless characteristics as expected.
But the difference is that the JB Strat..sounds like a strat..and the Jag JB sounds like a Jaguar.
They are not even close to being the same sound, and I am quite pleased!

I also was not sure what to expect with the use of 1Meg pots or the rhythm section. The range sweep is as good as it gets. The rhythm section is great too, maybe best I have experimented with
Lastly I really admire the mint pickguard rather than the original tortoise shell.
I have seen some custom shops with this on alpine white bodies and really liked it, although I have not seen any vintage original guitars made like that.
Color go well with my amp and other guitars!
(Sorry Tqi, I can't make recordings)
