Can anyone tell me what type of key board was used on the original version of pipeline.

You can hear the same instrument prominently in the New Dimensions stuff. They really bang on theirs. And actually, that player went on to play in Three Dog Night, who's listed in that first link. I bet it was the same actual piano, too.

I played Pipeline w Bob Spickard and Deke Dickerson at one of Dekes Guitar Geek festivals awhile back. Bob’s kid played a Wurlitzer 112, and it was pretty eerie actually. It WAS THE sound. It was a sublime moment.

Yes! 'The sound' is why I ask.
I've been trying to get 'the sound' from the keys I have, but not yet. At least I know what to look for now.

The Wurlitzer model that’s being “played” on the 1963 Lawrence Welk Show video is one of four models that are difficult to differentiate from the exterior. It could be a 140 or 140A (transistor model) or a 145 or 145A (tube model). All look the same on the outside. The volume and vib controls on all four models are on the lid front. The controls move to the cheek block on the 140B model in 1964 but otherwise also looks similar to the previous 140 models.

The model of Wurlitzer on the recording of Pipeline is hard to tell. If it was a 140 model, it would have been spanking brand new because the 140 came out in late Spring /early Summer of 1962, which is when they recorded the tune. The 140/145 had, for the first time, onboard vibrato/tremolo. To me it sounds like there is vib/trem on the keyboard in the recording. My college guess is that it is a 140~ model because of the vib sound and they have a 140 on the Lawrence Welk show. But I could be way off.

Nevertheless, it could have been an earlier 112 or 120 model. Those models however would have used a tremolo speaker tone cabinet, model 920 as they did not have onboard vib/trem.
