At 6:08, RJ plays "Penetration" - sounds pretty good - maybe not Mosrite tone good, but a good P90 tone to me.

"BTW - anyone ever see Guitar Player Magazine review a Hallmark guitar??
I'd lean toward the answer being "NO" but I like surprises."
Actually they have....even the "Red Baron" and they liked them....very much.

By the way, for those who know their Hallmark guitars, a couple questions:
- In addition to the set neck '60 Custom they now offer a bolt neck '65
Custom. Anybody have any experience with the new '65 Custom?
- Re the '60 Custom, apparently to get to the truss rod adjustment, you
need to remove the neck pickup....what's the degree of
difficulty/inconvenience with that?

I have a 65 Custom, but I changed the pickups to Dana-Mo's. Not sure if it made any difference in sound because I don't have another stock 65 Custom to A/B with. All I know is I enjoy playing it more than I enjoyed my former Fillmores and Dana-Mo 65. It's built just as well and it gets exactly the sound I was looking for.

It's four screws that hold the neck pickup on the body and maybe removing the pickguard. I actually prefer the neck adjustment at the base of the neck on a Mosrite/Hallmark; it's a cleaner look. The 1966 and later Mosrites have the adjustment at the headstock with a plastic cover over the bolt.
So far, at least for me, for the biggest pain in the ass/inconvenience in neck adjustments - the Stratocaster still holds that position. I cringe when one of my Strats needs strings or neck adjustment. I know it's going to be an all afternoon deal. A lot of players swear by their Strats. Me - I swear at them.

Surf,
I read the Guitar Player Mag's reviews of the Hallmarks from 2014. Nice article; very nice surprise.
It doesn't alter my overall view of GPM; and, BTW, I am not alone in my opinion about GPM.

I gave up my subscription to Guitar Player years ago. I just get Vintage Guitar now....much more interesting content for me.
Having to remove the neck pu is a PITA but less of a PITA than having to unbolt the neck on a vintage style Strat. At least my Tele has an access channel under the pickguard.

Surf,
I stopped reading Guitar Player years ago. It started out nice but morphed into propaganda trash. Like you, I mostly read Vintage Guitar Magazine. It's more objective, interesting, and informative.
Also like you, I find the Telecaster most simple and easy to maintain. There's beauty in simplicity according to Plato. Once adjusted, maintained, and not stressed (with heavy gauge strings), I've never had to remove the neck pickup on a Mosrite for a truss rod adjustment again.
With the Stratocaster , I often wonder if Leo Fender had a sadistic bent.
As in -
Let's make a guitar with the body routed out to hell, install a Rube Goldberg tremolo contraption, mount the pickups to the pickguard which is blocked from removal by the strings, put the truss rod adjustment where it can't be accessed.
Other than that, it's a great guitar..

Well, at least the more modern versions of the Strat have the truss rod access at the headstock. I could probably live with having to remove the neck pickup on the Hallmark, especially if I only needed to do once or twice a year.
