What was the attendance? I saw a couple sold out metal shows there in the late 80s, Jeff(bigtikidude) |

I'd guess that was the eye catch priority in 1980 America. Your average joe was curious about punk music. |

Surf Punks sold a lot of albums despite not really being either surf nor punk (in relative terms ). |

Top photo is in the middle of our set at the Santa Monica Civic on 10/3/80 (which, I believe, was sold out...maybe 2000-2500 people; Paul Johnson was in the audience). Bottom photo was a few nights later, also opening for the Surf Punks, at the Roxy Theater in Hollywood. Good times.

Great pictures! I love the fact that almost 40 years later John, Dusty, and Dave are still riding that wave! Beautiful dedication and testament to their enduring love for this music. (Sorry, I don't know the bass player.) |

That was Jeff Nicholson on bass. He went by the name Niki Syxx in those days, a name that that guy in Motley Crue RIPPED OFF. Read that band's biography. We're mentioned as "some surf band from L.A." Eagle eyes will note that the title of that concert on the t-shirt used the same name and the same font/style as the title of our first album. That show was our launching pad. — |

Awesome Dude! Actually, I was the one ON the beach. They were in the Ocean! To promote their band, they had rented a big Fishing/Pleasure Boat, had a Banner with the BAND Name on it, with the band set up and playing fully amped, just cruising along the beach. The boat was loaded with Bikini Babes, too. Very Impressive...what a site and sound. They were coming from the South, so they probably started in Redondo Beach and cruised all the way up to Malibu and back. I just google Mapped that, it's about 32 miles one way! Another thing that they were noted for was that their lead guitarist had Now, that's pretty PUNK I would say...
