Ooh they are going to do it right too with no hipster concessions. Stoked. Time to sell off some gear to raise necessary funds!

Squink Out!

On YouTube they are saying the price will be the same as the S500 putting it at $895...

"Pawnshop" mix'n'match nonsense, for example. G&L seems to cater to a more aesthetically settled clientele. Maybe more pros.

This is 100% a dad guitar. And it is a Pawnshop mix and match. Strat vibrato, strat controls, 100% fugly.

G&Ls are hideous. They cater to bedroom players, people who buy new guitars and baby them.

You mean mix and match like slapping a strat term on, moving the switch and adding an extra knob?
Edit: jake beat me to it.
Re: a more aesthetic clientele? I can only assume you mean "old" and are referring to the color. And pro? I'm not sure in 2017 that one can define professional musician by their gear. My .02

Ok, the combined force of your arguments against the guitar pictured above have shamed me into changing my opinion about it. I agree, it totally sux. Sure glad I'm not sharing it in a "NGD" post.

Squink Out!

This is 100% a lawyer guitar.

(Sorry for OT - I have no opinion on the guitar and will stop after this.)

Jake, some dads I believe you're pretty fond of (one a grandpa, actually):

Once there are millennial non-dads that have accomplished a tenth of what these guys have accomplished, then millennials should feel free to use 'dad' as a putdown.

That JM looks similar to all other JMs. Sure I see differences from others, but they are very small. If I were looking for a JM the G&L appearance would not sway me for or against. Weight might.

So now should we all fess up about: who here has grown children (or is otherwise somewhat aged), who here else has a day job not associated with music, who babies his guitars (at least never takes them outside the house)? What do these questions have to do with why we are here? Nothing.

I turn 71 in 2 months. Anyone here older than me?

I don't think I'd call that a "100% lawyer guitar", because I'm guessing that any decent lawyer can probably afford any Jazzmaster he/she wants, including Vintage, as well.
(Probably without having to dig too deep into their pockets, either.)

Given the fact that Dick Dale has children, I suppose that would make his Strat, aka 'The Beast' the most famous guitar in all of Surf music, a "dad guitar".

So what would I call this new offset G & L?
A Jazzmaster inspired guitar for people who, for whatever reason, don't want to play a traditional, authentic Fender Jazzmaster. Which is pretty much for whom the guitar was intended.

Just my .02 worth.

-Cheers, Clark-

My dad's guitars, ca. 1966. Univox Coily and Teisco. Coily vibrato replaced with Epiphone. Photo intended to be vertical, but it posted this way and this illustrates the surfy vibe they have.

I'd call it aesthetically odd.

Exactamundo!

Jake, I believe (forgive me if i'm wrong) is just in loss for words to describe this post-modernistic abomination. Have we left dentists, plastic surgeons and pedophiles out of the discussion? They have some answering to do, too. Blame Clapton, he can take it.
Not discounting the gravity of the current cultural war against us, dads don't necessarily have to be boring, but most naturally are, for the good of survival.

Nah, this is a direct competitor to Fender's hipster models, I agree. G&L always had this "working man's guitar" quality to them, not so? I bet it's excellently playable, and less exciting than a box full of kittens.
As for Millenials, seems they're afraid of overtones. Or that's what management thinks. Uh-Oh

That Teisco looks very compelling, Squid. Something about the neck makes me want to see more pictures of it, if you have them.
