Noel,
Very inspiring thread, only read the last page and then very first post so far, will read more later when I have time, but to have gone from very little playing experience to playing onstage with Bob Spalding for a Ventures fan fest is pretty damn cool. Also, I don't see the links to the videos, but maybe I haven't dug through the thread enough. Anyways, just wanted to let you know you've inspired me.

Thank you so much! I was very nervous standing next to Bob. I thought he'd play at the end, but he wanted to play the first song! Gulp! Bob is very generous, though, and even threw his support behind what we did this year. Even after I played! Smile

To save time, here are some video links.
Phantom Mustang played with the Intoxicators at the 2014 Instro Summit.

The 2014 Ventures East Coast Fan Fest videos start here.

We had our first almost complete band get-together today. I'm on bass for most of the songs, and lead or rhythm guitar for the rest. Steve Cruz, who's the reason I started this thread in the first place, is back. Steve Chestnut, who played in last year's Ventures Fan Fest Beach Boys set, is back again. And John Drysdale, who also played last year and came to the Instro Summit with me this year, is gonna do it again. I think we know who is our drummer, but he couldn't come today.

I have a lot to learn before October.

And, we've already chosen our theme for next year: The Ventures Play Motown!

It's hard to believe the last post here was over two years ago. The move kept me from being part of that project, and everything else related to playing guitar.

But this past weekend, two excellent guitarists came over to talk about starting up something surfy here. One of them is our very own LordWellfleet, who got me off my duff. Thanks, Ed!

With their participation, I can finally keep a promise to an old friend.

Excellent!
Do it.
