I was browsing the local newspaper's website and came across this cool article about Dale Velzy. I thought some here might enjoy it -

The original Dana Point, CA Hobie Surf Shop is still there, but its now a cool Mexican food joint called Taco Surf. The current Hobie store in Dana Point is a block North on PCH and is 50 years different. Sorry no photos but someone here probably will add them.

I grew up in Sacramento so most of my boarding has been on a skateboard or on a snowboard. Learned to surf in the early 90's in Hawaii then continued surfing very sporadically in the mid 90's. Now back in Sacramento so I just skate.... but being old now I just cruise around and occasionally find a good ditch or bowl. Still skating my Hosoi Hammerhead!

As of Christmas Eve, I do! I suck, but it was such an amazing feeling that first wave... Like God himself was pushing me on the water.

I can't wait until summer, so I can try it out on Lake Michigan or Erie... Daytona is too far for weekend trips. ;)

I have a question, I've removed a lot of old wax and base coat already with the sharp side of a wax comb. I've read that you can remove the rest with a solvent. Is paint thinner ok, or should I get a special surfboard solvent?

I would use 'tone....Acetone!!!
Paint thinner would leave an oily residue.

goo gone works best to get the rest of the residue and then take some soft scrub to get the oil from the goo gone off. this is how i clean our used boards.

Goo gone is a good idea. I was a bit worried that thinner may be a bit too harsh on the finish.
