Vamonos after listening to The Dead Rocks' version and rekindling my memories of it being on a Paul Johnson cassette (Eclectric Guitar I think).

Herb Albert and The Dead Rocks! I heart them both!

This post has been edited cause I'm an idiot who can not recognize social boundaries.

On a lighter note: Clowns.

Prelude and Fugue in C major, BWV 846

On keys. I'm not quite up to the fugue on guitar yet.

Messed around & found a setting on my El Cap (tweaks from 'nowhereman's' Binson Echorec from a previous gear thread) and noodling around with some Mustangs' material, just the Strat & Vox. Something as simple as 'Moscow Nights' reminds me about playing same-things/many-places & helps me mechanically; thinking & feeling rather than fingering.

Two premieres last night.
I wrote my first song and recorded it on my laptop.
It is just an idea right now, a sketch. It will need a lot of work.
But I like the idea:

Still mentally in Finland. Thought 'Perestroika' would be an all winter project & it still may (plus I love the song anyway). But some folks here gave me some advice in a general nature in the past, but it managed to come out of my hard head this morning & coalesced into an understanding. The parts about nugging it out & sticking on it like glue, and also just listening. It's not an insurmountable melody. (The rhythm part I found myself thinking "what would Patrick do?" and it translates into more breathy, less stilted chords - also I understand why he shakes his wrists out every so often like an Olympic diver. Uff-da!)

And, uh, I really love my Strat with the Vibrolux and Vox mixed together.
Cool

Dark and moody tremolo stuff that will be tracked this weekend with our drummer.

A new Surge! original, working title "Slider." Way different feel for one of my tunes.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Stayed awake all night by BTO is a rocking tune! ( and a personal favorite)
Nice to see that someone else is familiar with the first BTO album post Brave Belt. Sorry for the sidetrack folks but BTO is in my top 5 favorite bands....

Yo Teiscofan- It's not a side-track if it's related to Surf which is exactly my intent for this stomper from the 1st BTO album. I too love Randy and Co. I know I heard this song maybe 1 time on the AM station way back when but then, where did it go? I swear I saw a greatest hits without this included.

To the surf part: It hit me last night after throwing the 1st album on the turntable as a palate cleanser (I had just listened to all 4 sides of Metal Machine Music- that's right, I did that) and the little bulb in my head starts glowing and it gets brighter and brighter. This morning ideas are fighting each other on how to make this a great instro tune.

I've already decided to have an extra drum track that will be just the floor tom going thumpa-thumpa-thumpa-thumpa. There may be some type of ethereal slide just roaming around to give a bit of extra texture. Fortunately I've discarded the idea of any vocals. Randy's cool cool cools will be missed so I'll compensate perhaps with some extra echo-y guitar.

Now to learn how to play the dang thing.

(maybe it was Fred Turner on the vocals- hell all these rock bands sound the same) Confused

Syndicate - I would love to hear the surfized version of "Stayed awake all night". Very good idea.
How about taking a song like "KIng kOng" and surfized get it( by Babe Ruth ) or...or... Dang now you have me thinking!
BTO is an awesome band IMHO and I think it was Fred Turner on the vocals...will have to research.

Now there's a leap! Careful with that thinking- I've hurt many a brain cell doing that very thing. I'll get you a preview if it all works out.-dvf

I've jumped on RJ Ronquillo's awesome take on Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World", which I stumbled across on YouTube a few weeks ago. I love everything about it. I play it every day, even if it's just me sitting around with an acoustic. So tasty and well done (and fun to play).

EDIT: I posted the link but it got all garbled/truncated. It's easy enough to find at YouTube (he's got two versions...the one played with that funky-shaped Hallmark Stradette(?) is the one I'm talking about.

Another new Surge! original: working title "San Andreas (is not our fault)"

Kind of a Mexi flavored thingy.

One nice thing about being retired is that I can "play" my guitars ad- nauseam. In my opinion, wasting time playing guitar is time well spent.
