Serbian has lots of words with no written vowels, like the word for the Serbs themselves: Srp. Thus, 'srf'.

Yep, kinda why I figured the one that's closest to surf phonetically, but with Cyrillic characters. Fascinating sometimes. I remember back in the eastern sector of 60's Berlin the Soviets would put up 'Stop' signs that simply said: 'стоп' Gotta kick out of that; quite a few of our words get borrowed.
