Is that your surfy bear sitting there Ludo? It looks great. I might have to do a real cab for mine.

yes indeed
i have notice something ;without the surfy bear i have more hum then no raison to pull out

Got this Guitar as a freebie for a promotion from work. It came with horrible pickups that looked like EMGs.
The guitar is real light and has a comfortable neck so I put in a set of Kent Armstrong P-90's with 500k CTS pots, single volume and tone, orange drop cap I had laying around and a EZPZ tremolo that I found online for 40 bucks.
It's a lot of fun to play now. Sounds great. I'd definitely recommend the pickups if you have a humbucker guitar that you don't know what to do with.
The trem is much stiffer than a real Bigsby and I had to loctite the arm pivot nut right away. If this trem smooths out after some break in time I'll grab one for my Tele too.

My current project, sorry, no photos, is adding a second pickup to my Gretsch G6119-1959. It's a great guitar with the strong treble of a trestle-braced Gretsch, but without a neck pickup it just wasn't versatile enough. So . . . I had it routed by a trusted luthier, and am awaiting the delivery of a second TV Jones Powertron pickup for the neck position.

When finished, it will have a reduced control set, a pickup switch and a master volume; as they advertise with the Brian Setzer Hot Rod, a gas pedal and a gearshift.

Gretsch guitars are not your everyday fare for the world of Surf, but they can sound awesome in that role.

Jeff, how can you work on such a clean work bench?

Well Ed,
How's this?
A camera crew was here yesterday and when they left the place was trashed! LOL. We didn't use the usual dust collection so that we could keep the noise down for recorded commentary.

Unfortunately it's still hush hush until May.

That, my good man, in NOT a messy work area...........

I finished a commissioned Tele build that I was working on. I used northern ash & chambered it heavily. The final weight of the finished guitar is 6.8 lbs. It sounds amazing & looks beautiful. I created this color myself & the finish is very thin, as per the clients request. Grainfiller, one coat of vinyl sealer, two light coats of color & two light coats of clear. I used 2 oz of sealer & 8 oz of lacquer total! It should wear quickly. Unfortunately, it does not have one of my necks. The client had a Musikraft he wanted to use. He supplied the decal & neck plate too. Here's some in progress & completed pics....

I apologize for such a photo-heavy post! I always like to show progress as well as the finished product. Also, I just took in a '61/'62 Jazzmaster for a refinish. I'll be posting pics soon!

Bob, explain the sound difference from solid to hollow body on a tele please. Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Bob,
Beautiful job as always. The finish looks amazing.
I'm actually working on our second prototype (casually) that has similar construction methods.

guitarslinger1 - that SG is a riot! What fun.

Cheers,
Jeff

Acoustically, it's a bit more resonant. Plugged in, there's no difference. It's pure Tele. The pickups (Porter "standard" pickups) are punchy & articulate.

Wes, I'll get those Jazzmaster pics up soon!

Jeff, I'm anxious to see prototype #2!

Bob,
We'll be unveiling #1 in the next few weeks for a start.
Prototype #2 will be a ways off until we test it more.

Cheers,
Jeff
