I am currently working on rhythm of almost 30 songs right now for a gig on Dec 18th. All these barre chords are killing my thumb/hand muscle!!! But it feels good playing so much surf. Smile

Josh, remember to hold the pick loosely, otherwise you tense up all the muscles and fatigue easier. Try lighter picks for rhythm too.

How's that going to help with the barre chords?

Cool

When I read thumb/hand muscle I was thinking right hand for some reason, obviously it's his left hand. Oops!

Simoncoil: definitely add Landlocked. it is wicked and crowds love it.

It is well suited for a trio also. Your bass player will have to tune up his syncopation chops. As a bass player myself, that goofy bass line is definitely the bridge between drums and guitars.

I just listed to some Los Apollos from your link. You guys rock. Bomb Stop is particularly killer in my opinion.

Thank you very much!

Interestingly enough, when I first started to work on "Bomb Stomp" (which was when I was with my previous band) my intention was actually to do something Bambi Molester-ish. In the end the song took off in another direction (and was also edited for Los Apollos a bit), but I think there is still something left from the original inspiration in the second theme and the buil-up part in the middle.

But before I can suggest "Landlocked" I will now have to take another look at "Super Stock" by Satan's Pilgrims since our bass player would like to play that one. We already tried it a little a while ago, but didn't really manage to get the atmosphere right. Probably because it is an Astronauts-style arrangement and we are just a trio...

"Redlined", "Midnight Run", (Penetrators), "Lone Surfer", (Deadly Ones), "Bangalore", (The Blazers), and Surfari, (The Surfaris). Playin' them tonight. Talk about last minute. ;D

Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

the idea was put into my head to do my own conversion of 'friday on my mind' as an instrumental so i've been picking away at it.

Been working on surf versions of two non-surf songs.

Always was a big Portishesd fan, and thought this one might make a cool, dark surf tune.

And this Redd Kross punker from '82.

Ewa on the Beach; thanks to the great bt available here in the downloads section. Putting together a Baker's Dozen for the Mrs. so it's looping - learning a song by immersion. EZ since it's 9°F outside.

That's great! All the best with it. I love that song. Ewa is still too hard for me.

I'm getting these ready to play these this year. Phantom Mustang. Theme From Endless Summer. Bunch of early Beach Boys songs. Besame Mucho on Bass VI. And about 5 or 6 really obscure Ventures songs.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Great idea with doing a Portishead song, Mpoppit! I love that old Redd Kross record too.
