You are both right!
However: Although Taiko is indeed a japanese drumming style, Taikonaut is a word used to refer to Chinese astronauts (like cosmonauts for Russians):

So indeed you were BOTH WRONG. THIS is the internet. I won.

Do you know how many times I write and rewrite everything I put here? I reread every comment before I think it's safe enough to post, that it won't offend or be misunderstood.
Since you have opened the door, could I suggest you give more thought into the appropriateness or pertinence of your posts in relation to the topic as well? I was following the "Thrashtastic" thread with detached interest (but interest nonetheless) when you began posting about motorcycle rides with Jay Leno, your niece's birthday party, Bobby Rydell (complete with links) and a clip of some guy who can play really fast. After that, the thread quickly died. Coincidence? Maybe there was nothing more to be said, and I'm reading it wrong:

Understand, I'm not talking about the odd off topic comment, or even taking part in threads that often take off in another direction. We all do that, and it's fun. But your post made me wonder if you were aware of the fact that a previously vigorous thread quickly ended after your contributions, and if you noticed or took anything from that.
I mean this as constructive, and not to hurt or embarrass you. You are obviously a hyper-conscientious person, and I know you mean no harm.

No offense or embarrassment. Point taken. Regarding Thrashtastic, it seemed to me (at the time) I was posting in the spirit of humor of many of the posts, or actually answering questions. I guess not. I've gotten a reaction something like yours maybe four times so far. No excuses though. I always try to satisfy your criteria (pertinence) as well before I post a comment, but, sometimes, I let a few slip out.

When I first heard the Taikonauts I thought I heard a hint of Hawaii Samurai and in the CD liner notes there's reference to them. Were Hawaii Samurai an influence and is there a connection between the two bands.

On the first album in 2010 we played a cover from Hawaii Samuraï, "Creeky Tiki in the Deppest Jungle of Gargula". They certainly were an influence !
Later we started to share regularly stages with the Irradiates (lead guitarist and bass player from Hawaii Samuraï). They are really nice guys, and we like their latest album a lot ("Audio Mental Manipulation Device", engineered by Steve Albini).
This weekend we played two gigs with Demon Vendetta, their guitarist Sam played bass in Hawaii Samuraï.

Excellent! I'm a fan of Irradiates too.
It's the first I have heard of Demon Vendetta, just a found a video and i can hear the Dick Den sound right away.
You seem to be gigging regular, are these places known for crazy bands or do you get slightly "straight" venues sometimes and are you getting good audience response at both.

Yes, we are lucky enough to play quite a lot in "straight" venues. We try to develop our show for this kind of venues, working with our light and sound engineers. It's so different to be on a "big" stage...
And actually we still really love playing in small places and there's no doubt we'll continue doing it a lot, we're just a little Surf band
The audience response is generally good, but it's definitely harder with a big stage and the distance between the band and the audience. That's where the lights, the samples (!) and the "show" become very important.
