Nah. This is nothing like when I passed up a motorcycle ride with Jay Leno (he was out here to visit a friend of who owned a motorcycle Jay was interested in) to go to my niece's 3rd birthday party, because I'd accepted the birthday invitation first. That's a decision I've always regretted, but I'm over the anguish I felt when I realized what I'd done.

I have the strangest feeling this isn't what you mean. Big Grin

I used to (for a period...) fall asleep to Death metal. It kinda had a relaxing effect on me, at normal volume, especially the more melodic ones (ex. "Death"). At some point it becomes no different then classical music to your brain, it's just sounds. Don't think I can do that anymore though (Yes, I was stoned Big Grin .)

Noel, That's why we love you Big Grin I can't picture you as a pissed off punker or metalhead!

Oh, I can get pretty wild, like this. Way more my style and very close to home. Big Grin This is the version I grew up with. It's... wilder.

Someone from The Sharkskins is responsible for showing me this. I didn't want to believe it either, but check out the sweep second hand on the clock behind him.

Although no mosh pit or crowd surfing it's still pretty Wild!

Would you say Thrash is essentially nihilistic like Death Metal? I ask because what I've sampled so far is (Thanks, Jeff for getting me started!) and nihilism was so 45 years ago for me. By the time Thrash and related music hit, I suppose I wasn't in the mood.

I've enjoyed the hard-edged, driven musicality of what I've been listening to. Wild stuff! Is there any instrumental Thrash?

Certainly! Here is one of the classics (and still one of my favs)

Another great example

Not necessarily - different bands had different lyrical themes. Everything from death and dying to the need to be eco-friendly. It's just in the case of the latter, it's less likely to be "Yaaaaay trees" and more likely to be, here's the worst case scenario.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Thanks Jamie! I like these. Are there more instros?

We definitely need a new thread for instro metal, one of my favorite genres.

So, here are a few fringe favorites of mine. Not thrash in the strict sense of the term, but definitely contains thrash tactics. Technical, melodic, instro, thrash-like metal masters:

Swarming Hordes & The Fucking Champs

Everybody at a computer should be listening to the Halloween marathon
On North Sea surf radio.

Here is my yearly taste of southern fried Instro-Metal band Hematovore. A healthy dose of their entire 20+ years will show that they are all over the place. But fans of Daikaiju, as well as almost any other band from this region should know that Hematovore are a HUGE influence on us.
