Hey,

Has anyone seen/played/heard anything about these guitars?

http://www.yamaha.com/guitars/products/productdetail/0,,CNTID%25253D60169%252526CTID%25253D600012,00.html

I think they look pretty cool, and could be good for some surfy tunes + more.
Whaddayall reckon?

Thanks,
Max

i think it's too modern-looking for a semi-hollow. i hate those F-holes. it's features look cool, though.

The Tremblors on Facebook!

The Tremblors on MySpace!

Cool its red. looks cool enough, how does it play? yamaha should be fair quality. what about those p-90 style pups? p-90s sometimes have a little too much grind for surf i think. yeah, its red!!

AS proven in other threads, what the guitar looks like only has an effect on the traditionalist crowd. But sound is one thing you just cant get around.
The sound is what everyone will be hearing, and if it don't cut the rope than it just wont work for surf. I have never heard nor played one of these, but I do have a Yamaha spruce top accoustic that I use to teach with. It's not the best guitar I have ever played, but for the price $199.00 it sounds and feels wonderful.
Go ahead and check it out if you can. Besure to play it through a good surf sounding amp to get the true feel of the sounds you will hear.
You may like it, or not. But at least you will know.
Joel

I'd rather have this.

Well, I'm not a traditional surf man really - I just thought I'd put it in context for the sg101 crowd Smile

So do people have experiences with other Yamahas? I've never really played any so I can't vouch for their quality etc..

I like the look of that extra piece of pickguard with the two knobs - very burns-ish. not a fan of those Fholes but Ive seen them worse - way worse. looks like a cool guitar for who isn't strictly strat, but I wonder how much it costs?

Cost wise - I can find it for £399 in the UK, but in the USA it's $999 so I think it's a pretty fair deal! For once.....

Ralf Kilauea with a Yamaha. I've seen Ferenc play one of these, and of course, the Surfcoasters from Japan.

There were some reviews of the Troy Van Leuwan model (sorry about the spelling of his name!). I like the look of them too - I like hollow bodies, and I like P90s, but I just have too many guitars.

Check out the Guild Starfire III-90 as well, altho it'll cost you a bit more.

a second look, somehow I have an instinctual feeling that P90 equipped guitars should be fully hollow and not semi-hollow. Don't know why that should be. Starfire III-90 and Gibson ES330 are both fully hollow, of course. Not sure about the Epiphone Casino.

Hmm, I find 400 pounds a bit too much I think, for that kind of money .. what do deusenbergs sell for in the UK?

£700 and up. Usually, you can take your dollars and translate them straight into pounds to get prices for American goods here. E.g. $499 = £499 (actually more like $950)

However, we benefit on Marshall, Vox, Orange etc. and especially Celestion speakers

Why do you say that? And I'm not too crazy on Deusenburgs - I've played a few, notably a Double Cat, and I just don't like humbuckers. I think I'm allergic. Although that said, it is a good looking guitar.

Im in europe though, mainland. pounds, aw they give me creeps, UK is so expensive! buying in dollars, on the other hand, is a real pleasure these days if you come from a Euro-country Very Happy

leadguy from the killer bananazz plays one. his life sound is to die for. I mentioned them because it's a semi-hollow alternative, that's all.
