Hello to all those who attended the wonderful SURF GUITAR 101 CONVENTION WEEKEND for 2013. And of course to those who didn't, who will have the benefit of viewing pix and videos from many Members of this Forum. I shot about 4 and 1/2 disks worth of material!! I have no idea of how many videos that incorporates -- I will let you know that figure once I have downloaded all of the material on the five disks.
My first task will be to load in all of my photographs into my Flickr account. Once I have cleared away the pix that are valueless, I will package them in a Flickr Set, and post the link here.
I still to have to finish all the videos from Day 3 of the 2013 Surfer Joe Summer Festival. Check out that thread to understand why all the delays. http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/21678/?page=1. Long story short, I now will have the time and energy to get that done.
There are so many people to shout-out for their efforts to pull together this amazingly special surf music filled weekend, such as Big Tiki Dude, Tiki Tena, all the musicians who donated their time and equipment for the Convention and other shows. So many good people in the surf community donated their time, it amazed me. All the clubs that allowed this music to be performed live; the Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum (especially DragonFly Linda and John Miller); and of course all the bands and musicians who played on top of their game. I attended shows over a 4 day period; plus I was able to make it to the Fender Visitor Center (I didn't get there in time for a tour b/c of some nonsense at the car rental place in LAX). So needless to say there is a lot of material to assemble.
I would appreciate it if someone could send me an accurate list of who played in each of the "Jams" that kicked-off the Convention. I would like to include their names in the notes of each video I shot. Send the list to me at schizofredric@yahoo.com.
I gotta also say how surprised I was that my buddy Davie Allan got up to perform (with Burnin' Mike Vernon's Three Balls Of Fire). Davie was a childhood hero of mine, and when I heard that he was going to perform with The Arrows in 2004 in Calella Spain (for an event called, 'The WipeOut Weekend'), I just had to attend. Here's a link to it, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jon.fagg/Calella.htm. I did an interview with him there for my Internet Radio Show called 'Twang Shebang', and ultimately put together a 'Special Edition' to highlight his brilliant career and catalogue of music. I ultimately was able to release 2 albums on my record label (Lifeguard Records) by Davie and his Arrows!! Who would have thought?? And as if that wasn't enough, the 2 albums were distributed and marketed by SPINOUT RECORDS, which is owned by EDDIE (and Wife Melanie) ANGEL!! I thought I had to be dreaming.....
Really struggled with leaving Southern California this time around. I get a strong feeling in my gut that I "belong" out there. Maybe I can figure out a way to maintain homes on both coasts at some point? I simply cannot give up my home and my life in NYC, as I am way too entrenched here. Plus I have a 25 year old Daughter who lives here; and I am the only living parent she has (her Mom sadly died of ovarian cancer in 2004).
Enough of all of that. Stay tuned for my videos and pictures, as soon as I can get to them.
Jeff Hanson -- brother, you outdid yourself!! You too Tiki Tena!! I hope that in the end all of your hard work and the stress it caused you paid off for you two (and others who helped you). You are an amazing duo - you give so much of yourselves it is incredible.
I also want to throw out another shout-out, to Martin Cilia of The Atlantics, and Sr. Surf, Lorenzo Surfer Joe Valdambrini. These 2 gentlemen showed me extra-special kindness; it was a perfect "continuation" from the 2013 Surfer Joe Summer Festival, in a way.
Man Oh Man, do you all not agree that SURF'S UP? Like, WAY WAY WAY WAY UP?
