... someone has decided to come over 2 or 3 times a week and play guitar. He's no further along than I am but is at least as enthusistic as I am. Likes surf music too; every CD I played. We worked on Phantom Mustang by The Intoxicators and The Ventures cover of Back in the U.S.S.R.
It's a start. He has an iPad and were gonna load up the stuff to Garage Band we'll work on. We'll also learn the early Beach Boys hot rod and surf songs. I already know almost all the words, can easily cover Mike Love and almost can play Al Jardine's parts on guitar. Why not? It's how I would have started 50 years ago if I'd started 50 years ago.
I'm stoked! Ought to be fun. Between my family and his family, we've doubled the size of the crowd we'll play to.

Congratulations Noel! Especially since both of you are at about the same level. You will learn and improve together and inspire and encourage each other. That's the ideal setup for a long term relationship. Enjoy!

You're on a fun road, Noel! I'm betting other musicians will come along when you least expect it.

That's great!
I always feel that no matter how much I practice alone I always learn and grow more as a musician when playing with another player. Same goes for recording.
Can we expect to hear some of this Garageband material in the future, maybe a submission for the 2013 SG101 Compilation?

Man....nothing like locking in and jamming with other people. I'm hoping I can get my band back up and running at some point in the near future. Playing bass or guitar???

Noel, this is how it begins. Enjoy. There is much you can learn on your own. But when you start jamming with people your playing will take on a new life.

Thanks everyone for all your encouraging words, going all the way back to my first post here. http://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/14768/?page=1#p196815 That seems like a long time ago, and only yesterday too. I have no illusions. I am now where you were way back when you were young kids with guitars and a couple dozen chords under your fingers. I don't have youth on my side but at least I don't have to play along to vinyl. On the other hand, age and treachery won't help me play guitar like they help me play poker.
I think this is the beginning of the beginning. And, it's gonna be fun!

So ... the kid whose dad owns the Ricky bass has decided to combine his lessons with mine and join up. He sat outside the practice room my whole lesson tonight (playing along) and just up and asked. So, one guitar teacher who can nail all the difficult leads, two rhythm guitars, and a bass. The only person missing is a drummer.
Plus I've been asked to participate in an Internet project. Somebody pinch me.

Noel...that's exciting news. I love playing in my band and playing with my buddies. You're in it and doing it for all the right reasons. Enjoy every moment and have a blast!
