I'm pretty sure that "more recent" and "better" are always contradictory, and this is one of the more stunning examples that I've seen. |

Just learned most of the notes for Transylvanian Orbit/Ricochet. The brilliant nuances, timing, clean and fast double-picking... that's a whole other challenge in itself! (Currently playing the entire song at -20% tempo for accuracy's sake, which I don't tend to do too often.) — |

Thanks for the nice compliments, and for learning the song. That's always been one of my favorite songs that I've written. Ivan Last edited: Aug 06, 2012 12:00:45 |

My pleasure- it's definitely a favorite of mine too (equally great in both of the SC and Madeira catalogs, IMO), but it's also one of those pieces of music that makes me feel like I'm actually improving my playing just by learning it. My only complaint is that you make it look way too easy, and that gave me a false sense of confidence. A somewhat amusing aside- when I took an initial stab at it, I accidentally started playing "Wasted Years", and was pretty impressed that I still remembered it from the 80's. — |

I think of this song as the adopted child of the Madeira. The Cossacks gave it birth, but the Madeira provided it with a good life. It was the last original the Cossacks recorded, and I think we only ever played it out maybe once before we broke up. But it's been a mainstay in the Madeira sets, and I hope people associate the song with the Madeira as much or even more than the Cossacks. (I also much prefer the title Ricochet to Transylvanian Orbit, which was just designed to make it fit into the Monster Party 2000 compilation.)
Inspired by Friday's Maiden concert, I actually thought about introducing Ricochet as Wasted Years at the Convention.... Definitely a bit of a simliarity, though completely unintentional, at least consciously.... —Ivan |

Hey, some might pay good money to see you guys rebrand yourself as "Iron Madeira" for a show, bribing someone to just jump around like Dickinson, and maybe throwing in some random Maiden licks into your solos, haha... but nah, they're totally different songs- once I really listened to that part in Ricochet, I felt silly for getting them confused... maybe it's a result of inhaling too much hairspray back in my metal years. — |

For some reason I was playing far beyond my usuall standard today, so really went at it. If I'm still on form tomorrow, I think it's time I stopped putting it off and have a go at learning Perfidia. |

'birthday' by the beatles. we need to be able to pull this one out of our hat in case we have a birthday boy or girl in the crowd when we play out. i'm thinking it might be unexpected because all anyone ever plays is 'happy birthday to you'. ..with heaps of reverb i might add —Last edited: Sep 07, 2012 06:01:09 |

Working on a new original that we're going to debut at a show on the 18th, here in Nashville. I'm really stoked about this tune, really looking forward to playing it live. —http://www.facebook.com/CrazyAcesMusic |
