I guess.. I mean.. There are only so many names and models (though they DO have quite a few.. ) that they can use. Les Pauls have the slabs, the deluxe, tv, jr, etc... So maybe the offset family splits to jazz, jag, etc.. then splits to "traditional" then the HH and blacktops etc.. Idk..

But the selection of the name "Pawn Series", well.. there's nothing really notable about it being related to a pawn shop find. When Dan "Teisco Del Rey" Forte used to write the column in Guitar Player, pawn guitars were never Gibson or Fenders -or even modified guitars. They were the unusual japanese models, the goya, eko, etc from the 60s and 70s...

Got my surf green Jag today! Really impressed so far. Neck and body alone are worth more than the roughly 400 bucks I paid for it, and definetely rival my Mexican made guitars. The pickups are actually pretty neat. Hotter than regular "vintage" style Jag PUs, but far from humbucker hot. Playing it through my surf setup it sounds a bit like Dick Dale with the addition of the characteristic fatness of the Jaguar. (Not making any comparison whatsoever between my playing and the King's.)

Yeah, obviously, but I meant compared to the Strat. I'm not too good at describing tones, but I'd say these pickups sound like a combination of a traditional Jag pickup and a hotter Strat pickup... but still mostly like a Jag.

I'm actually starting to like the sound more and more now. Does anyone know what design these are actually based on?

Talk about pent-up demand. I wonder if the folks who dreamed up the Pawn Shop series are jealous?

I pre-ordered these in surf green and in white. I received my surf green Jag on Tuesday and the white one on Wednesday. The white one has a couple of issues and I'm sending it back, but my surf green Jag is really nice. Squier changed everything that I would have changed in the AVRI jags and they didn't change anything else. That, more than the price or anything else, is why I wanted one. I like the 9.5" radius much more than the 7.25" radius. I also like that the headstock adjustment is at the headstock. I'm not good at putting tone into words, either, but the hotter pickups do add more body, similar to a strat, as well as power, to the tone, while keeping the twang that I love about jags. Those are the 3 things that I would have changed in the AVRI Jags that I've had. I never liked the radius or having to remove the neck to adjust the truss rod, and the pickups sounded great for surf, but I never could use those jags for Link Wray songs or similar songs. The new Squier jag solves all three of those issues for me. The bridge is a traditional jag-style bridge, which I actually like (I enjoy making those constant adjustments!) and the vibrato is not closer to the bridge, like on the Mexican Fender jags. Another unexpected thing that I like about these new Squier jags is that the necks have a skunk stripe, similar to the strat and tele. Regarding the white jag that I'm sending back, there was a very tiny crack in the finish at the bottom of the lower part of the body. Also, the neck pickup wouldn't lower on the lower side. I'm sure that the latter could probably have been corrected, if I had taken the pickup out to see what's going on there, and the extremely tiny crack in the finish really isn't a big deal for a $299 guitar, but, since I had already fallen in love with the surf green jag, I decided to return the white one.

Got my Jag last wednesday, and after changing strings to 0.11 and getting a proper set-up, it plays and sounds great.

Hello all,

Has anyone put a set of 12s or 13s on one of the new Squier Jaguars? I am thinking about doing that. Wanted to see if anyone else encountered any problems adjusting this Jaguar before I tackled it.

Based on the reviews so far, I think I am over purchasing a VM Jazzmaster in addition to the JMJM I already have. It seems the build quality is a lot higher on the Mascis. The trem placement does not bother me in the least. GAS has subsided finally!
