Back in Piitsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I grew up.

I think that, until the trem assembly on the guitar in question is fully disassembled and its parts compared to the same parts from a trem that functions correctly on the same version of guitar, there's no real way to tell if anything is busted, just loose, has been over-tightened past being able to tighten properly, or anything else. There's just no way to know. IMHO.

@ Cyclopene. It seems there's still alot of confusion around your issue. I'll bet if you disassembled the unit and posted some pics here of what you find, some of the pros on this site will be able to help you lickety split.
