I agree, they are both really amazing albums; they're even more genius when you start digging in and analyzing, so I would totally encourage you to just go for it. Re: videos, I might be buggin a couple of really cool SG101 cats that live nearby about that, these solo efforts are a lot of work! — |

I'm working from the original movie soundtrack (I own a copy of the film) and this on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UJ0SSHlarc&playnext=1&list=PL664DC4A6304F4006 but there is apparently a recording by The Blue Hawaiians that I've never heard. Are there any other versions I should listen to as I do this? Thanks. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. Last edited: Apr 16, 2011 11:10:46 |

Laika & The Cosmonauts. Attached is a live version on YouTube. You can also find the studio version if you search YouTube. Their live version on their album "Laika Sex Machine" is very cool as well. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Hi Noel, Jonfender sent ya' some stuff, enjoy. The Ventures do a pretty fair version "Experiment in Terror" as do the Blue Hawaiians & the original by Henry Mancini is always cool. The Davie Allan & the Arrows version is on you tube and Al Caiola does a decent job on one of his "Spies" LP's. |

Thanks Jon. Doing this by myself has brought home why Les Paul invented looping and multitracking. There are three guitar parts, bass plus first and second guitar, plus percussion. Now I understand the Fender G-DEC series. I can't get one of those for a while as I have almost finished paying for the Fender Stage 112SE. I did get analog delay and tremelo pedals to put in front of my reverb, since the RV-5 doesn't have those. Fun stuff. What started out as a lark has suddenly become technically interesting. —This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got. |

I'm actually working on covering the 6/8 live Laika version for my 'vocal' band. It's a great moody song and can we somewhat heavy if done right. — Science friction burns my fingers. Last edited: Apr 17, 2011 13:08:09 |

I grew up listening to Experiment in Terror every Saturday night; it was the theme song for Bill Cardille's Chiller Theater in Pittsburgh. I didn't see the movie until much later. Mancini's theme for the film is eerie and foreboding. That is the feel I want it to have; slow, ominous, dark (a baritone guitar would come in handy here) with caverns of echoing modulated reverb describes how I'm trying to do it. After this, I think Mancini's Arabesque would be a good challenge. Has anyone ever done THAT one? In fact, has a surf band ever done a Mancini album? —This is Noel.
