I am planning on adding some gear to my stage setup and exploring some areas that I haven't really done before, that being the world of Samplers and MIDI controllers. My new band is a three piece and as we're playing mainly instrumental music I'd love to throw in some samples once in awhile to fill in the space, and give us a little extra time to get our stuff together on stage when need be...
After looking at samplers I think I'm gonna get the Roland SP-404 (for xmas). Pre-recording samples and soundbites doesn't look like it will be too hard and they can all be stored on a CF card, which is awesome.
The tricky thing will be controlling it. Pushing the buttons on the sampler itself won't be feasible while I'm playing the guitar. The SP-404 can be controlled by midi, so that leaves me with using some kind of controller. I really don't wanna buy a mini keyboard just so I can add one more hunk of gear to the stage and still have to reach away from the guitar. Same thing with the foot controllers that are big and expensive. I'm a big fan of low profile setups.
So here is my goal: a Jag-Stang mountable midi controller. I think I can make this out of drum triggers and a trigger-to-midi converter like the TMC-6. Kind of like Futureman's Drumitar (from bela fleck's band).
Problem is, I know absolutely jack about MIDI. Does anybody here have any advice to offer? I would appreciate it!
If this actually comes to fruition I'm positive I will have the coolest guitar (well, at least the coolest Jag-Stang) out there!
