I am currently learning a lot of the first wave classics that I never got around to bothering with.

I just learned Laika's Fadeaway. Yay, me!

Thanks, YouTube!
Eric

I started working on "La Luna En Tu Mirada" from Ry Cooder's "Mambo Sinuendo" album a few days ago. The Glasgow Tiki Shaker's excellent performance of this song at the HB Pier reminded me what a cool tune this is.

wooza, I've also been obsessively watching the Surfer Joe Los Twang Marvels videos the last few weeks. I had totally missed this band before, thanks to YouTube and Unsteady Freddie for correcting that. As a result, I've been inspired to learn "Siboney".

Flatracer: I actually was trying to learn that song too! Have not had much luck with videos. By chance have you tabbed it out?

Matt: e-mail me and I'll help you through the rough spots.

Okay this is kinda wacky but I'm working on Jobim's Bossa Nova hit "Insensatez" with a surf beat.

The TO's have recently learned..."Ghost Riders" (many requests for it) an instrumental version of "Surfin' USA" and four new originals..."Colins Wave"..."Other Side Of The Bay"..."GoOfY fOoT" and "Avila"

Mat,

I'd love to hear your "Curb" theme song. I love that show. Maybe you should get the Meshugga's involved!?

-I finally learned Supertones "I surf in black, which is relatively easy and fun.

-Having a hard time with the solo in "Bustin' Surfboards." Have the first couple of bars. I love on youtube Wadadli Riders solo version, but guitarist has his back to the camera!

But has any group or someone do The Beach Boys "Surfer Girl."
I have the chords down, but trying to pen down the melody. I think it would sound cool with the Fender Reverb Tank.

I have 110% given up on tabs. I usually print them out and always always correcting like 40-50% of it. Memorization is the best way to do.

I am working on the Curb theme still... Smile

Howard.. Surfer Girl is one of my favorites from the Beach Boys. I only know the chords at the moment - have not messed with the melody line yet.

i don't know if this is in the right key but you should be able to pick the melody out by ear http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khvmZjhQobU

I just started playing again after having not touched my guitar for about six months. So basically I'm trying to relearn everything I ever knew before.

Sean

I have been working on "Lanky Bones" by Eddie and the Showmen. Anybody know what they used to get the slight fuzz in the opening lines?

CaptainSensible: Why didn't you play guitar for 6 months?! I would have went crazy.

6 months?? that's much better than me from when I got married in 1988 to 2004, barely touched my instruments (you know marriage, chores, kids, family, vacations, etc). Oh I would pick it up every now and then, but regret every second of not playing it every day and practicing.
Now, it's everyday, around 1-2 hours (or more) a night and before I go to work in the mornings (without plugging it into the amp of course.)

Just keep on playing and practicing!!!!!!

Work. Family. Work. Skill plateau frustration. Work. Boredom. Work. Work. Work....

I've taken to playing unplugged in the living room so I don't have to hole up in the basement. It helps. But, once work gets busy again it will be difficult to find the time to play.

All that said, I've been really enjoying playing again.

Sean

I don't play nearly enough. Maybe 2-3 hours per week, which stinks. Life is busy though. I hear you loud and clear CaptainSensible.
