Lots of good recommendations so far. But still... Disregard everyone else and just start here. This is ground zero for newbies!

Well, it looks the topic has picked up again, thanks for the suggestions, but for now I've already bought more music than I intended to so I'm tapped out. These are really great suggestions though. Thanks a lot.

Just remember, before you leave, that these suggestions are only a small sampling of mostly "the classics". There are so many awesome surf bands out there, that you can discover a new one every day! It keeps me young.

I totally agree about the SG101 compilations and Podcast. Great mix of old and new Surf and Instro, and a great introduction.

this is the masterpiece of surf music
go for it !!
I just finished making a digital recording of that very album (from vinyl) two weeks ago. I must give it back to my brother-in-law now.
(With "DYNAGROOVE" - oooh!)
About Dick Dale - I'm afraid I'm a bit of a heretic in that regard. There's very few of his I enjoy listening to. I'd like to see him in a live performance though.

I don't think anyone mentioned "Man or Astroman". They are a cross between surf, punk, and the Twilight Zone.

...and if you're looking to see how some of these bands fit into the context of music you may already know, an interesting jump-off point is:

...which shows the linkages between bands and their musicians... and their various histories.

Although I had been a fan of instrumental rock and jazz for many years before and had seen a few local surf bands live, this album was my first real taste of surf. It had the biggest impact on me...until I discovered Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet (who never wanted to be called a surf band in the first place). Still, this Dick Dale compilation is a great place to start.

The Dick Dale Comp was not only my first surf album, but my first internet purchase (of many) as well.
By the way does anyone else think that the cover shot looks like Sean Penn?

If you can find it, "The Surf Box" is a 4-CD set in rough chronological order, music from the late 50s through mid 90s. Many fine tunes and artists.

WTH is that Chantays album? Is it new or a weird import collection?
Come on now, Ted. It's Pipeline!
Actually, I think that one is something more recent, based only on seeing it on reverb central. That's all I know.

Hi all...
I am very fond of music. I am new to surfing internet. Can anyone suggest me some sites from where I can get latest music stuff?
several people on this forum sell the music. you can also go straight to some of the bands websites and purchase it from them. a lot of it is also available from amazon.com. or, you can visit the itunes music store.
